 |
Is there any benefits in using a dual core over a single core cpu with madtracker?
As far as I know there shouldnt be any real advantage, unless perhaps in rewire mode with two apps running - what about vsts will it allow for more VSTs? As multi core is about to become more common will madtracker be programmed accordingly? Any insight is appreciated |

i believe the experimental engine supports dual core. however atm if i run it on my dual core amd it is unstable, so currently for me there is little benefit, other than a whole processor being dedicated to mt, the other for background processes. saying that though, my pc runs like a bullet all the time.
also one of the biggest benefits for me is that when i reach the point where my pc is struggling with all the vsts, rather than everything slow down or crash, it is only madtracker, therefore easy to stop and recover from. |

Same here, however the unstable factor seems the use of certain VSTI(E) plugins. Besides that, it seems that the experimental engine (and dual core support) gives crackling sounds while using madtrackers delay and reverb fx.
The dual core works great in rewire mode (tested with ableton and cubase), so there is surely a benefit
Nevertheless i realy REALLY! hope MT3 will support dual core properly

actually thats not really a benefit of dualcore... same over here with only 1 core, so thats not a "dual core only" |

So with a dual core CPU Rewire will work more stable and faster?
Btw, is it correct that only XP Pro supports dual core, but not XP Home ?

In my case rewiring works, on my single core it didn't (well very buggy and slooow), i really can't compare though, my single proc is a shitty intel on 1.8 ghz. On my amd dual core box it runs like a sunshine (although Madtracker crashes sometimes )..
Dual core is supported on both xp Home as on Pro :
