keyboard recording?

I am using a midi keyboard to play into madtracker. I have something recorded into the keyboard's memory. Here is what I am doing: I set up madtracker for multichannel editing, then I set up a bunch of empty patterns to record into, next I hit record and play in Madtracker, then I start the keyboard's memory playback.

Okay now for the problem: Madtracker will only record into the first pattern and as the song plays, it loops back through the pattern and records what is playing over what has already been played. How do i get madtracker to jump to the next pattern(s) so that it records what the keyboard plays without looping back through the pattern that has already been recorded? is there something that I am not doing?

Do the bunch of empty patterns have different numbers? If you hit the "Play" button while it is in record mode there is no reason for it to loop (it will just loop the whole song).

So if you have:

00-00
01-01
02-02
03-03
etc.

It'll record on pattern 00, then pattern 01, etc.

okay, Im trying this again. Im going to try your suggestion Yannick.

Edit: advancing each pattern's number before starting the recording worked. I knew the problem had to have a simple solution. Thanks Yaniick! Smile

Keyboard memory - BULK DUMP - SYSEX

Jesse, how do you actually transfer your midi from your keyboards memory. I tried that with different tools but without success. I use an old YAMAHA PSR-500, but I cant seem to get the BULK DUMP work. Is it a SYSEX problem?`

Thanks for any help.

okay Beatmax

what I have is just a simple music setup

computer

casio CTK-571 leyboard with midi in and out

midi to gameport cable

now the connection

connect midi in on the cable to midi out on the keyboard

connect midi out on the cable to midi in on the keyboard

connect other end (15 pin connector) to the gameport on the computer's soundcard

okay then I setup everything as yannick told me to in madtracker,

then after I have a song recorded in the keyboard's memory, I just have the keyboard playback the song from memory (in this case the keyboard's memory button select play then select the memory location) then I make sure midi is enabled in madtracker and I select the channels to record into, then I hit record in madtracker and then I hit the start/stop button on my keyboard. Assuming I set up the midi i/o in madtracker correctly, the keyboard playback goes into the channels I selected for multichannel edit.

I also can use the method above to play directly from the keyboard into madtracker (realtime play/record I think you call it)

simple answer to your question is, I don't do a bulk dump really, just a playback of the song using a different recording method. Im not sure if it is a SYSEX problem or not.

Hmm. It seems my keyboard doesnt have this function. Well then I still have to use the work around using a sequencer and Mid2XM.

Thanks for your help.

Hmm, I think it is still possible with a PSR500. My brother has a PSR510 and I think he's done that before, but that was about 10 years ago so I can't recall exactly.

Check the specs at YamahaPSR500. Also look in the Knowledge Items section.
