Hiya Yan,
I think you may of got a little hot headed and put an idea into actiopn which will only infuriate the crackers.
okay you warn people about cracked versions of mt tunes upon loading. this is enough. If you decided that mt shouldn't load any mts created with a cracked copy, then this will only lead to the crackers deciding to enter the mt executable, to combat this problem. this would be 10 times worse than the current warning. MT will be taken apart and the crackers will learn how MT works as an executable. This has happened with many well known software titles from large stable companies who have dedicated people to combat this, but the crackers always win. You do not have the time to combat a dedicated cracker, if you show a challenge, they will defeat it.
a friend of mine who enjoys warez, cracked my version 2.1, and i have created tracks that are unfinished with this version. So the script now is, i load them in mt2.3 and they wont load up. i think this is stupid, as I have a legit regged copy now. this is also stupid because as people are saying above, this can be over come in various ways.
Yannick , dont punish people for wanting to use your software. You will loose out.
the best thing you can do is not make MT3 downloadable in its full for like mt2 is.
point made.
cheers |

Think it's pretty interesting to say that Yannick, while trying to protect his software, infuriates crackers who in theory at least should have no buisness in even trying to crack the software. Poor crackers I guess, having to work a bit harder to gain some reputation...
say it as it is, em22, you're pissed because you now have a bunch of tunes you can't work on in the lastest version of MT, because your friend wanted to practice his cracking skills with v2.1 You're right though, crackers always are one step ahead anyway, so one could argue "why bother?". Guess the answer is one doesn't want to give up without a fight...
Yannick should actually feel honoured. He has created a software that is so good, people feel there is a need to crack it in order not to pay him the much underpriced price he asks for it (not sure if you followed my logic there...not sure I follow it myself ) |

Oh sunburster.
You always miss the whole point. I'm not pissed off at all, i can use mt2.2 untill the cows come home for old tracks, and new tracks are written in the latest version. Why would I be pissed off?
I didn't say I have a cracking friend, i said i had a friend who likes warez, who used a keygen and created a dat file.
I wasn't sticking up for crackers, i was simply saying what WILL happen. Yannick is trying to create something he believes will be unbreakable, but the crackers are relentless, and they don't give up til they're happy.
okay?

He/she is your friend, and you pretty clearly state that the person cracked your 2.1 version. Now, where in this sentence am I supposed to understand that your friend used a keygen someone else has made to crack the software? Especially since these days (with all the 12 year olds hacking into pentagon) it's not too uncommon to maybe have some friend that knows how to crack software for real...

Ok, emotions are some of the hardest things to convey over text, but those sentences above, where you use "stupid because I have a legit copy etc." to me at least sound as if your angry at something. But no hard feelings, as (I think) you said you're stoned, and probably therefore missed the I placed behind my original sentences. Meaning, don't take the stuff I said seriously, ok?
I'm not saying you're sticking up for crackers (although I admit, my previous post might have sounded that way). I agree with you on the fact that every software that is available to be cracked, WILL be cracked, just a matter of time. Now, of course I can't say what Yannick thought when making this change in MT2.3, but I don't think he was thinking he now has come up with the ultimate way of stopping crackers. I think he just wanted the people that USE cracked versions to think a bit. Of course, most of the people will just get a new cracked version once one is available, but maybe some will snap out of it and realize that 40€ isn't that much to pay for a software that can help you get record deals. And in that case he has just won another couple of 40€ deals
looking forward to missunderstanding some more, have a stoned night |

haha
well
some facts are true some i think are a little over the top. but the point is, don't crack madtracker! just use the unregged version, it really doesn't have THAT many features missing.. i've been using it for ages before i acquired a regged one, and to be honest, the differences are minute! (sound quality? psshh! unless you're releasing records, it really doesn't matter!)
