... how to turn off completely? Is this possible?
For example, when playing the keyboard, I don't want key C-2 to start playing a song. I want it to play a pitch like a normal piano/synth keyboard! Help!  |

Disabling will be impossible (I think), but you can re-assign your keys via 'extra' -> 'configuration' -> 'midi' -> 'function keys'. Just use notes that you don't regularly use for the function keys. Since the lack of an own midi keyboard, I can't tell if you can also assign non-existing keys.

Hi Inge,
The problem is I want to use all my keys when I play/record. I only have a 49-key midi-controller. Maybe if I get a 61 or 88 key keyboard controller/synth, then I could stick the F keys at the bottommost octave. If it is not possible, well I guess I gotta stop thinking like a pianist and start thinking like a tracker (or trackist?) then.  |

Another suggestion is to start making minimalistic techno or darkstep drum 'n bass. You'll only need one octave (compensated by an extreme amount of technical tweaking on the actual production though).
It's my main reason of not making trance: I haven't got a midi keyboard, and thus only three easily accessible octaves on the same keyboard

->technoid: Does you midi-keyboard have an OCT+ and OCT- button, which would mean being able to transpose the keys one octave up or down at the time? If it does then you could just press the - or + untill it won't go any lower or higher, and then re-assing the function keys to the lowest or highest key. You can assign all functions to one key and thus only have to sacrifice one key for the functions. That's what I did, re-assigned all functions to C-0 on the keyboard  |

@ SB:
I tried your solution and it works! Duh, why didn't I think of that? I think this is a good solution, because most samples suck digitally at <100 Hz and C-0 thru B-0 is within that range (though some have nice bass properties!) and thus hiding the F keys there is a good idea. Anyway this will do, cuz I usually play around middle C, +/- 2va.
I hope though that in MT3 that function keys (on music keyboard) can be enabled and disabled altogether.
@ Inge:
There a lots of cheap midi keyboards out there. Here in the States, you can find 37-key (fullsize keys) midi-controller keyboards for $50 (U.S. dollars of course) or even less. You can even look in eBay. Now, if I had $300 to spare, I could get an 88-key midi keyboard. That's the standard pianoforte length. Hey, if you already have a piano, then you can get a midi controller for that. There's a new retrofitting midi device that attaches on top of your piano's keys. It's the PianoBar, developed by none other than the pioneer of synths, Moog. Check it out at www.moogmusic.com. The problem is that it's $1500, hehe.
I think it's worth fitting a midi keyboard to MT2. It gives you a far more intuitive control over your music. Heck, you can even play the samples alone for fun. That's if you know how to play piano.
The thing though is I still wish MT2 could control the pitchbend and mod wheels, but I understand that midi support is limited. At least there is some midi though. Cool proggie. |

Good ideas guys. on my 61 key casio I set the functions across the lower octave too. I like your idea though about shifting the keys down to an unused octave, Sunbuster. I'll try that when I get my keyboard back. |

When I'm using a midi keyboard for MadTracker, I put all the function keys on C-0 using Transpose on the keyboard, and if I want to play an octave lower in MadTracker, I decrease the Octave selector in MadTracker by one, having the transpose on the keyboard on zero. That way the function key will never be used. |
