It depends a bit on if you want to have your card for studio purposes only or if you want to be able to do other stuffs with it aswell, like games! Think of that first and then come back |

for $200 in the 'normal' segment (so both music production as regular sound usage on your pc for games and alike), either an audigy zx (juck) or the terratec dmx 6fire would be in that segment.
For audio-only purposes, you will need to define *exactly* what you want to do with it. Should it have multiple in's and out's for recording? Superlow latency levels? Should it control midi devices?
As c-frog said: you need to define very well what it is that you need for your setup before choices can be made.

The 3 mentioned by Inge are by most regarded to have the same target audience (well for musicians). I heard Terratec has/had pretty bad driver support.. so I agree with Inge that the Audiophile might be the best of the 3. |

The problem of Terratec is that they discontinue their support for certain devices way too fast. Whereas the EWX line still is supported, later releases (such as some basic 6.1 cards) are already not-supported anymore. My DMX is still supported, but it's only two years old or something like that. I think that the phaze support is pretty okay, since that are high-end cards.

Speaking of cards, does anyone know if the Yamaha SW1000XG is still being manufactured?
Or where can I find one "cheap"? |
