i remember that in FT208 i could add comments by just typing them into the sample field...
but in MT it seems if there is not a sample loaded, it will not hold info.
Is there a way to add author comments?

MadTracker has a built-in song comment support. Just go to the properties of the module (from the File menu) and there you've got the comment window.
