How hard would it be to get a portable version of MadTracker?
Would it need to be implemented somehow?
Or would some .bat trickery be possible? |

A portable version, as in using it on mobile devices? |

It seems that MadTracker is already portable, at least in the sense that you can install it on one machine, copy the application directory to a thumbdrive and run it on another windows machine (even on OSX through wine, but there seems to be issues there - think the back button in dialogs freezes it etc). I haven't looked to ensure its settings are all stored within the application directory. |

Not on PHONES, per se, just from a flash drive or something like that.
Working on it right now....
Got an application that makes software portable.
The biggest problem I'm having is that some sound thing crashes.
There are a LOT of registry settings. Think I found them, though. |

Even if a portable version is off on the horizon, it would be good to have MadTracker reference VSTs relative to the song's location so that if you change the name of the folder it's in it would still find the VSTs if they are within the song's root directory structure. |

I got it working.... Sort of.
What I did is I grabbed the installer .exe, "attacked" it with 7-zip, and volia, audio works OOB on my Flash drive!
What computer did I use? One at school, honestly.
(I didn't install anything. I'm in the clear. *whistle*)
You DO have to change a couple settings, but I'm working on making it "Portable Application Format" compliant.
Yannick, fair warning: I'm going to be sending a copy of it to you. If this works 100%, with 0% configuration at the end-user needed to work, (and I know that http://PortableApps.com accepts freeware applications, such as Google Chrome), this'll drive MadTracker interest back up again!
At the same time.... It has the potential to make the piracy that much easier......... . . . .
I'll let you decide if you want it on the PortableApps database. |
