Public domain instrument samples

Folks---

I just started using MT2, and I am quite impressed with the development which has occurred in tracking since the mid 90's when I was using ModEdit 2.x and 3.0 to play with sounds and realize the tunes which seem to constantly run through my head.

Now, with MT2, I have the capability to create music which is even better quality than I could with the version of Cakewalk which came with an old SBAwe32 I had in the late 90's. The only problem I seem to have is finding the samples I need. I do not have the equipment/instrumentation to create these samples, and I am not planning on professionally publishing my work, so I was hoping I could find some decent ones in the public domain.

Specifically, I am looking for symphonic samples---brass, woodwind, percussion (not just hits, snares, pads, or 909 kits---we're talking tympani, tubular bells/chimes, etc). I've found some good string samples, but the tune currently running through my head requires some decent french horn, trombone, tuba, and other brass (and woodwind) samples.

Would anyone be able to throw me a lead here? I'd like to enter this tune in the compo (if I can ever get it done, that is), and I really am looking forward to doing it in a classical, orchestral style---this tune doesn't lend itself well to drum rifs.

Thanks,

Henry

Hello Henry!

In the "Help and Support" section of the forum you will find a posting (second posting from the top) with lots of links to sites where you can download samples. Im sure you`ll find some orchestral samples from one of these sites, although you might have to search a bit.

Folks---

Martin, thanks for the info, but I've searched just about every sample site listed there and not found what I was looking for. XnmE and Qbical, thanks for the scoop---it would seem that the Tracker Instrument Repository has just what I need.

Thanks again, folks, for your support.

BTW: Qbical---I like your music.
