downloadable theremin

Hi all,

just doing something I think is useful, for once...

I found a downloadable theremin program that simulates the sound of a theremin (Kinda retro futuristic spacey sound). The real theremin is an instrument that is played by moving your hands in close proximity to two antennae that come out of the instrument. This lilttle program is a downloadable shockwave program that even has options to play along with some interesting accompaniment. I've been having some fun with it over the last two hours, Laying down some cool little funky theremin grooves. Here's the link to the program:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/science/playground/theremin1.shtml

Enjoy it! I know I am!

Aight! This is so cool! Saw the theremin being used live some times, and it always intrigued me. Thank you!

[bounced it up my weblog too Smile]

okay I will see if I can find a host for this little sucker then. I have a little bit of webspace that Im not using.

I've uploaded the pc theremin to my personal webspace. Its a self-extracting executable file.

http://home.earthlink.net/~j_moore11/pc_theremin.exe

Have fun!

Would be interesting to hear this thing used somehow in a madtracker tune or two....

You can kinda mimic a Theremin with MIDI mod wheels (linked to pitch). Unfortunately MT2 doesn't implement it, afaik. Probably just record with another app and port it over to MT via MIDI playback, or else via different samples. Otherwise, do it in nonreal time with MT2 pitch changes (which might be a biatch to do, heh).

Err.. Well, just grab a loop of sinewave and play around with it in mt2, and you'll get a sort of theremine... I thought that theremine program sounded very, not so good, if you catch what I mean, I believe that the way they handle the pitch slide isn't really how a real theremine sounds like Smile ...

Made a little test to emulate an theremine in MT2 ...
Here's a downloadable file of it (MT2-file packed with RAR, to about 2kb)
http://c-frog.madtracker.net/MT2-Theremine.rar

Added some stereodelay and reverb to make it sound more spacy Smile ...

Enjoy!

c-frog,

That is great! I think you should use that somehow (start another chain song, perhaps). It sounds good.

*BUMP*

Hey guys,

I found another theremin program!!!!!

You need a webcam for this one because you play it like a real theremin. I don't have a webcam at the moment. If anyone tries it out, tell me about it. Here's the link:

http://homepages.ihug.com.au/~squires/vt/

I hope it proves better than the program i used to start this thread.

Have fun

It's *very* odd Very Happy

But it works. A bit. Maybe. Definately not convinced of the sound though, but well worth the experiment (and laughter, for that matter Wink).

The control points (the rectangles) should be your head and your two hands btw. Wink
