 |
2 months ago, I made an important decision. As I couldn't ignore the fact that the community needs are growing, I had to do something. Waiting for MT3 is not a solution.
So I considered implementing VST support into MT2. After a week of thinking and planning, I went to the conclusion that it was feasible in a relatively small amount of time.
I spent the last 2 months working on MT2. And as one good thing never comes alone, I also added ReWire support as well as a built-in IRC client.
I hear you asking: "When will MT2.5 be released?" A release candidate (for registered users only) will be ready within weeks. All it needs is little improvements, polishing and beta-testing.
The VST support so far is very promising. MadTracker 2.5 will support multi-timbrality and several VST effects per track (and even on the master track).
Right now, 98% of the plugins I have work very well within MT.
Stay tuned...

Yannick, yer ol' w*ker!
I kiss you!!!!!
Have I waited for the VST-support or what?!
Are we talking only VST or also VSTi?
Question which might help development(?) of MT2.5:
Using Renoise 1.281 I've encountered some nasty incompability with some VSTis. Some of those are Edirol's Orchestral and Hypercanvas. They (or Renoise) tend to be unable to map programs, so when loading a saved Renoise-song utilizing mentioned VSTis one has to remap the instruments each time. Frustrating or what? Would you, who ought to have an insight in the matter, know why this occur? Is it Renoise that only supports older VSTis or is it the VSTis too old for Renoise, and if it is Renoise (hopefully *hihi*) MT won't fail in the same way?
And also, might be another issue though, Steinberg LM4 MKII won't work in Renoise 1.281. No remapping issue this time, it simply won't load.
So when you say "Right now, 98% of the plugins..." are any of the mentioned plugins any of those tested (and, hopefully, OK:ed?).
And oh, as our dear friend Mahir says: "I kiss you!!!!!"

The full VST 2.3 specifications, i.e. VST effects and VST instruments.

To change your status text, you have to log into the registered users page right after you joined the forum. It's a bit tricky, but I'll see to make it more convenient.

Good god!
Has Yannick suddenly woke up and smelled the coffee????!!!!
Why wasn't this done along time ago and I wouldn't of spent so many hours ripping sounds from Renoise?!!!
Anyway, the good news is that VST is finally coming to MT2. If any of you guys haven't used VST in a tracker enviroment - your defo in for a big sound quality shock!!!!
GOOD MAN YAN!!!!
I almost luv ya ;p |

That's a good question. I already thought about it but got confronted with quite a few obstacles as MT2 is not modular at all.
But then, the community pressure made me re-evaluate the case. And I found my way thru the obstacles. It was worth to work on it.

i guess gone are the days of classic trackers who make their own instruments.. *sigh* we'll miss ya! haha..
it's gonna be super interesting to try this new thing though. is anyone else an oldschooler like me who doesn't use the contemporary VSTi's as they're called?

you don't need to use vst just because there are support for it
but I think you are gonna like it, and I must say that I think the way you work with vsti's in madtracker is alot more flexible and easy than in ex: renoise, so to learn shouldn't be such a big task.[/b] |
