Anyone have an acapella of this track?
I recently saw this hilarious movie of a guy singing along with a nice happy hardcore version of it.
I've put it on my to-remix list after that |

Dragostea din tei is a huge phenomenon in France.
The original version (#1 in the charts) fights against *4* covers that are all in the top 30 !
The other versions are :
- Haiducii - Dragostea din tei. A more dance version of the original
- "Le Poulailler" by "Le 6-9". A parody of a popular real-TV show (La ferme / The farm) done by some mainstream radio guys. It uses the same melody and arrangements as dragostea din tei
- "Ma ke si Massimo ?". The (by far) lamest one : A cover done by (done for should I say) an ex-"The farm" contestant (the famous italian Jet-setter Massimo Gargia). Someone should have told him that "La ferme" ("The farm" in French) also means "Shut up!" in French !
- "Argent Argent" (Means "Money money"). A parody...about easy money made by covering tracks ! ...that itself covers Dragostea din tei...The guy who made this version (Cauet) already parodied the Star academy / Operacion trionfo hit "La musique", turning it into "De la merde" ("Big shit")...It's actually the funniest one (Atleast it contains some smart critics to the system!)
So we have *5* versions of Dragostea din tei in our top 30 charts...
And besides this, unknown composers are starving...
The music business is so nice and fair those days... |

So true.
The original is nice and funny. But all the covers really ruin the fun (and it stinks money).

And something rare enough today to be noticed : it has been written & composed by one of the group's members. In other words, the track may sound commercial, but it's true artwork and not just another casting based group.

Besides "Argent Argent" that makes fun about that subject, the other covers really show what the mentality in the (major) record companies is...
For those who read French (I don't know if it got translated), get yourself a copy of "Ils ont changé ma chanson" ("They changed my song") by Corinne Rousset, Editions Stock. Corinne Rousset worked for 7 years in the management staff of a major label but has quit, disgusted by how it all works. In her book, she describes it all, and believe me, as a young composer, it's really disgusting.
One of the most interesting (and instructive!) books I have ever read...

Dunno. I have a friend who wrote a book published by the same publisher. She may give you the answer (She BTW wrote 4 pages in her book about one of my .mt2s )
If you are interested, that publisher's website is
www.editions-stock.com
Or you could write them (snail mail) to the following address :
Editions Stock
31 rue de Fleurus
75006 Paris
France
Good luck ! |
