NEW SONG: Moonlight on the shore (ambient / chillout)

Hi !

Finally a song that has started at a VSTi only song and now ended in a sample only song Smile The Vivaldi-Plugin inspired me to this one. Lay back and relax. I know I could work a bit more on it, but well, we will see.

Comments welcome!

On the fly review:
Starts nice and chilled. Nice piano, though it sounds a bit "thin". Ah, snap-sample! Smile Nice! Cool arpeggio.. Hmm! Seems like it's peaking in the bass though, which makes it distorted! Maybe it should sound like that.

Overall, very nice!

Ok I found the problem. Some instrument had a lot of dc offset . I added some EQ to make the piano a bit fuller and adjusted some instrument settings. Tell me if you here a difference now. There shouldn't be any distortion now. (I uploaded the corrected file, just reload)

quickie review:

piano sounds too sharp, I'd put it through a low-pass filter to get it to sound more muddy and dreamy that way. Otherwise a nice song, but in the end the bells(?) get a bit repetitive.

Maybe add some more delay on the piano or play some chords to get a fuller sound.

@Beatmax: A little different stuff from your two midi tracks that I listened to and commented on before. I think I agree that this track needs something to fill it out a bit more. It doesn't seem to have as much going on as your midi tracks "the bard" and "Newage dreams" did (personally I feel those two tracks need nothing done to them).

I guess thats the difference at creating a track only via the PC keyboard. The songs you mentioned have started on my PSR keyboard while I was playing it. Unfortunately the lower 3 octaves are damaged (key contacts). That was a better way to get the melodies and it was easy to add new ideas. Another point is that I can not add as much tracks as I want using VSTis since my 1GHz PC and Madtracker says "no way I am going to freeze". If I am using a soundfont and a midi sequencer I dont have to think about that, the sounds are there I only need the melody. Of course I could use the sfz plugin but that isn't the same.

The track starts of very nice, but it remains on the same level so the speak.

This might be chillout music, but a few rise and falls might fit into this tune to give it a little extra.

Ah man, I'm a sucker for these tunes. I really miss a heavy modulated bassline that keeps attacking and then retreating, but apart from that I love this tune. I don't know where he went, but this SlicerXXL also made these beautiful songs that put a spell on me.

Shoot me. I was listening Plaid this morning, and I was saying to myself: "you idiot. you keep getting wrapped up by the same old elektronic atmospheres." And yes, I am. Still, I really love these songs that represent little more than a good main tune and beautifully arranged fx to induce atmosphere. I don't care if they are original or not (come on Manuel...the sound of waves? get a grip! before you know it you'll be introducing bloody seagulls Wink), they work. Period. Anxious

So just make this nice, cute, heavy changing but yet subtle bassline, and enlighten us all.

Inge

Another on-the-fly review...

Nice tune. Sounds very much like something Mars Lasar would do on some of his chillout piano repertoire. The piano is nice and tight, but is lacking in some performance nuance, such as some soft touch acceleration, but that is just my way. Otherwise, it's good the way it is, as it mimics and parallels the other high-attack timbres. The background synth strings keeps the balance in the back, although it feels a little thin at the beginning, but it was good as you made it swell near the end, much like ocean waves eventually coming towards a beach (where I wish I was at right now, instead of at work). Smile

Hi again! I am glad you all took your time and reviewed my little song. I see there is still alot to do to improve it Wink At least I am learning new things here so critics are very constructive here. I`ll see what I can do with the bassline which is a good idea.
