Help Please!!!!!!!!!
okay i have a question for all
i just made 300 bucks yesterday and i want to buy an audigy-2 external soundcard for 160. is it worth it to buy this as i have heard a lot of negative comments about creative labs cards. but i have a laptop and i need an external soundcard and my choices are limited i guess. I'm not sure what would be best to use for this. does it have asio support? salesguy didnt know
it seems like a good choice.
thanx guys |

Emu, a company that develops the soundblaster cards with Creative Labs, have just released there new cards, they go under the label 'Creative professional' check it out at www.emu.com
I would recommend the emu 1820. I'm thinking of buing it, but I don't know if it has mac drivers tech support seems a bit slow...

kX drivers for the EMU chip (found on creative labs cards) have asio support and the software is awesome too.

I just bought a Audigy2 NX today at Best Buy store in Brookfield Wisconsin, and the price was $100.
I don't know if the price should be so high where you are.
The box lists a SoundFont Manager, but I don't see anything about AISO |

well if you use the Kx dirvers like Mikx said you get asio, since it's the EMU chip powering the Audigy, but still, take a look at the site I mentioned and look at the software included, it's like the Kx driver software, but on acid
And there is an onboard DSP chip wich you can use as an VST
Wich means that there are build in effects you can use, and you can even use your hardware FX units via send/return on the breakout box to use them as an VST!

never mind...
I never saw the word laptop in the original post...
The EMU card is desktop only.
Still a wicked card though...
But you can check out for example the M-audio 'Quatro' wich is a great 4in/4out asio USB soundcard

I'd suggest, like QBical said, to check out the M-audio stuff also. For instance this page shows their range of pro mobile equipment
this page also lists a nice mobile alternative (USB powered if you want to) |

pimpjuse - creative labs, being cheap and shitty, don't actually come with asio support on their software. creative software is bullshit. if you plan to buy any creative labs card with an EMU chip (like the audigy), i recommend getting some semi-professional quality drivers for it, like for example the KX PROJECT drivers. they are by far the best drivers available to use on creative labs soundcards, and they also enable asio support for the cards..
i hope this straightens things out..

whoaaa.. would this mean i could plug it into my mixer and use effect send/return to trigger effects for my mixer channels? (i.e. the same as plugging a standalone EFX unit into send/return on a dj mixer?)

ok well i already bought the damn thing..
money burns a hole.
but ok then so i can download these drivers or do i have to buy them seperately.
and i think when i buy a tower computer i will buy a sweetass soundcard but this will be good for now. it should cut down on the hissing when im using my studio mic, and thats all that really matters.
and plus, it should cut down my audio latency a bit too.... right?
PS - thanx for all the feedback guys |

the drivers are free. www.kxproject.com
good luck, its pretty tricky to get all the things in the mixer DSP thing wired up properly (you'll see what i mean). so if you need help with that, we can meet on IRC and i'll show u what goes where.

All Audigy cards have Creative Asio drivers. Just update the drivers if you haven't. It's included in all Audigy 2 cards I think.
Tascam US-122 is a cheap external usb soundcard. |
