The Watch starts off nicely, quite atmospherically with a cool windlike sound effect and some bluesy organs which work well. Nice tamborines. Lots of reverb, which suits the organs nicely although may have been over done on the drums. Drums themselves a good choice soundwise, but they change the emphasis of the song from one of ‘easy listening’ which was in the genre description I believe to more of 80s pop. The shaker does not work for me, at first I thought the sample was corrupted, until I checked it and realised it wasn’t. Could just be me, perhaps.
The guitars are an interesting choice. They provide the main lead line through most of the song and a few flourishes here and there. They work well, mostly. Sonically, melodically, and timingwise. But the volumes stay static for the main tune, which sounds a bit mechanical. However, that situation changes when there is a sort of bridge (right word??) and the volumes are entered and it sounds more realistic. The way all the guitar parts work together is very impressive. The drawback is that they sound weak when not much else is playing.
This song has the potential to be a good mood piece. I think the composer here could maybe experiment more with different sounds to fatten things up, so as to rely less on the reverb.
