Sounds like: LTJ Bukem in a hurry

Good:
Nice, transparant drum 'n bass alike song with minimalistic but interesting melodies. Beatmax has the guts to evolve slowly, manoeuvring on the border between excitement and repetiveness.

Points of attention:
Sounds too flat and lacks true depth. Two and a half minute ain't enough to get into this song. It's more an atmospheric lead for support of a documentary than a true song on its own. Check out LTJ Bukem's work: he takes minutes and minutes of time to slowly bring the listener somewhere. Rollin' Beats lacks length to get me into the song.

aah some chilled breakbeats/DnB. What can I say, I like this track very much. I simply love the piano/bell in this track. The melody it plays is somehow very sentimental and atmospheric. The fast bassline gives a cool contrast to the piano/bell.

In the drum compartment everything works okay, except for the kick. I think it could use a bit more deep punch. Also there's the issue of panning, the drums could use a bit more of that I think.

The background pads are nice, they're just loud enough to give that little extra to the track's atmosphere. Normally, I'd probably complain about them being too quiet, but in this case I think they actually work very well the way they are.

I got one major complaint about this track. It's too short! I can understand if you don't want to push a good thing too far, but I definetly believe this track would have material for another 2-3 minutes easily.

Overall, a very good track. Now had it only been a bit longer...

Very skillfully mixed, brilliantly clear sounds. The arrangement and theme is not overwhelmingly original, but original enough to complete the song - I expect this song will rank among the top 5.

"Rollin' Beats" is a fitting name for this breakbeat-laced chillout trance arrangement from BeatMax. Though thin musically and way too short, the tune sounds smooth and sharp and evokes the best elements of this genre.

From a production standpoint, this tune is superb. The samples are flawless, nice and clean and augemnted with just the right amount of reverb. I could stick this right in the middle of my "23am" CD by Robert Miles and it would fit right in.

Heck, stylistically, I could do the same thing as well. Robert Miles grew up a lot on his second album, and "Rollin' Beats" would be right at home on that album with its morphing breakbeats, minimalistic piano, subtle pads and rolling bassline.

The main thing holding the song back is how thin the music itself is. The piano melody is extremely simple, and the music around it is all background elements, with nothing else taking center stage. But this also isn't the sort of song that you listen to for complex musical depth. It's strictly an atmosphere song, and in that department it delivers.

The worst part of the song is this: it's way too short! At only 2:33, I get the impression there's a lot more BeatMax could've done to flesh out this tune with another 90 to 120 seconds of length. But hey, it's better to stop talking too soon than to keep talking long after you should shut up.

Overall, this one's a keeper for me. It should be one for you too.
