Midi devices not listed in instrument dialog box
Reply with quote

Hi,

I'm trying to get MadTracker 2.5 RC6 to work with my MIDI keyboard as an output device. I can see all the midi devices listed in the configuration panel fine, but when I try to create a new instrument and enable MIDI checkbox, nothing shows up in the drop down menu which should contain the MIDI playback devices to choose from.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but no luck. I got it working on a different computer fine, but I can't get it to work on the one I need it on. Every other program I try finds the midi devices easily.

Any suggestions?

System
P4 1.6GHz
1GB RAM
Windows XP (all latest updates)
SoundBlaster Live

Thanks,

Augie

This is a known problem that sometimes does not happen. The devices are there - they're just invisible. If I can find a workaround, I'll post it. But right now I can only suggest you to restart MadTracker and hope they appear. (Sorry, that's all I have for now.)

Thanks for the reply.

Are there any registry entries or other things I should try deleting after an uninstall to make sure it's completely clean?

The uninstaller removes all the registry entries already.

Just make sure you install MT in an empty folder and that should be clean enough. Smile

Well, just an update for anyone wondering...

I found a workaround. Since MIDI worked on one machine but not on the other, I set up a bunch of instruments on the machine that it worked on, selected the proper midi port, and saved them. Then I moved the midi cable to the 2nd machine, loaded the instruments on it, and voila, I get midi-out on the proper device. (I am using a USB midi-in/out cable, btw.)

I still can't see the selected device in the dropdown box, but it works anyway.
