alright, but do not tell me it requires also the latest M$ windows release, requires VST3 and has no functionality to use 20 midi controller outputs.

I am working similar way to make it usable for WIN98SE.

The point of NOT making for latest M$ windows is that they change too fast, have 100000000000 programmers. To make MT3 for old releases is becouse MSwin 98 and XP do not change, and we here "develop" this MT3 already 20 years...

Well, thats a bit of a rude negative response. Telling a lone developer what to do just because it doesnt suits your needs?

Im doing this alone, im doing this as a fun project not a multi million dollar software.

It will be open source and free,it will stay open source and free you can even take a look at the source code and do it your self which by the way, there are currently 6,000 lines of code and working. Good luck trying to get that lot working on a defunct os!

It wont be perfect at all, hense why I'm learning to code and using ai to help me proceed.

I love madtracker always have, Im just trying to revive it a bit to give it a boost of life but if this is the kind of negative response im gonna get from this community , i might as well just stop what im doing and say fck it.

Cheers.

well yes, SORRY! I can be a very salty, but look around there are many many one-mans tracker projects which began with one man project, in github, "hey it is free and public!", BUT unreadable source and no documentation! So it was also left as one-mans project. And so its destiny was to be abandoned and the next man begins from the scratch. HOwever he begins with the same way as its predecessor and that is unusable source too. Do you see pattern? 99.9995% of those open-source things are unreadable, they are public but not developed in mind to be useful for someone else or as teamwork to take it over. Energy, time wasted as everyone has to build from the scratch again.
If the source would have been documented then atleast someone could have got ideas to add new features, fix bugs, but without project it is just simpler to make it from the scratch instead.

So, the thing you do, it can be open source but do you have the project and documentation? Without project it is no useful for other developers and cant be teamwork, it begins as one-mans-project and will end as one mans project just as MT2.

Thats the main reason why MT3 development is painful -- there is no project and no proper documentation as it was made with itching fingers toward coding with excuse as "hey it is just one man and no money".

So, another question... do you prefer the similar development as "me me me", itching fingers for coding with no plan with primary purpose to be useful for you and using the simplest possible solutions? And as we all age and lose interest it is abandoned later. (Yannick said too that the MT2 does not die as Impulse tracker etc... ).
The another method to build requires project, it is much slower, but this is how systems are built which no one has not tried yet.

So, --- if it is too long to read to someone --
it was not said to harm you, but it is the hard truth when you look around -- 20+ tracker clones as one mans-project and no-one can use that source code which he left behind becouse it was made public but never ment to be useful for others, as also it is not feasible to make retro software which requires latest platforms.

about "defunct systems" ... people are still using C64, Amiga, DOS... on a much newer hardware.

Also, the Renoise developer said also that it is impossible to do for him his renoise on win98se, but Yannick did something -- programming this to be run on WIN98SE, thing what was meant to be impossible. Wink

no offence but you sound like those dudes who make "for fun" 4 channel tracker clone which in original had a requirement for 286 computer with 10MHz CPU, but the new 4-channel tracker clone requires 3GHz computer with 8GB RAM and latest windows, and they say it can NOT be done for 286 and then wondering why the retro people do not use it. It totally escaped the retro people are stuck on old platform and we do not talk about "updates".

nothing wrong with this forum. It works, just people got old and tired. Forum works, pretty small footprint, It is the people, not equipment who make miracle to happen. In discord it would be plain dead.

the AI for coding (and after that fixing its errors) is effective indeed. And fast too. I am using too. as it helps quite well for complex calculus formulas.

So the point was that -- perhaps to make a different approach since we have seen it already on 20+ tracker clone developments from the scratch.
The project documentation has to be made in mind "if it is not documented, it does not exist", and it gives abstract overview, so that there is no need to read line-by-line entire code to add new functionality. It makes much less prone to errors, much more readable and also people are much more willing to take it in hand too after working for it. But just writing documentation "is not as fun as coding", still... after 20 tracker clones and 30 years, perhaps it is time for some change -- how many times more to start from the scratch? This is my thought -- that before coding to make the development plan. I have asked it several times before.

but for communication ... why not irc ( as always ) ... in ircnet #spacesynth or in the classic #madtracker channel in Espernet as we still have built in that irc... Wink Wink so lets get some time scheduled.

welcome for a chat when you are calm again.

as we see we all are using mostly things which were developed in dark times

can't you see you are overreacting?
I pointed out to avoid the similar pitfalls what other tracker developers have faced already. Just saying "yes yes it is good" gives just useless egoboost.

It is the place at the edge of the other universe and here is no point of waiting others to follow the latest goooooood trends. I am touchy here too besides and tired of "new" things. So it is good to be in old outdated forum. Afterall it does not benefit to have the multimillion dollar crapcompanies attitudes when developing poor mans wavetable software and waiting others to behave like "consumers" with the same attitude like it would be multimillion crapcompany -- 100 upgrades .

After all it is just my own "stupid" opinion, perhaps many others are happy by using VST8 and windows 30450 with 10GHz processor. But they do not sit here in old forum and so low low retro irc channels.

So, You, why not just to be proud, continue developing even if it is just you using it at the end, or 2-3 other dudes? I do MT2.8 version but starting from planning and project. But it is for DOS entirely and I give up VST support becouse of Steinberg crusade. It will be perhaps used by 2 dudes only as everyone hateeees DOS nowadays as they hate MIDI, and they do not know what is ISA bus, SCSI (I just make it hyperbolic ). The another one can make MT3 which runs on windows 22222 only and no sound at all.

in other words, instead of You saying "look what I do, it is for community, but I do not care if it is useless for YOU, it is simple for ME" why not taking into consideration what is actually needed instead of fishing for ego boost with these programming snippets with AI help?

Hilarious thought -- based on your huge ego in text, I thought You are my ex-wife (who tried to sneak in) and not old madtracker fart who has seen life.
