* A pro registration of MadTracker for exporting your songs to wave files

Well, that isn't that difficult to comprehend, is it? |

but often I use the Fasttracker and then you can use the MODPlugtracker and just opend the song in it from just fasttracker and then just save to Mp3. So easy... but with
MT2 files its so complicated (hate that).
So I just want to find an program like this for MT2. |

Apparently, MPT can export to .mp3 by default. As convenient as that might be, it's impossible to implement. Yannick and I looked at it for ages, but to do that in a legal way costs thousands (!) of euro per year. The mp3-patent is hold very tightly by its owners, and every application that implements it must pay tremendous prizes. If mpt supports .mp3 export, then they move on dangerous grounds. For instance, the famous dBPowerAmp had to start asking money if users want to enable themselves to encode or decode .mp3 files.
And yes, it's very odd. For instance Winamp: how on earth can they not loose tremendous amounts of money by providing a mp3-player to millions of users for free? I don't know. All I know is that adding a mp3-decoder legally is impossible, unless you're a really big author of software. And yes, even the open source lame-mp3 decoder isn't really free. Their codes contain zero usage of copyrighted mp3-lines, but the use of the mere mp3-format is what costs money.
Edit: and no, I also don't know how the Winlame-software can exist for free. For all that I know they should pay money to the patent-holder of the mp3-format. Most probably, the patent-holder will only charge large companies. Nevertheless, all those who use it must theoretically pay, or accept possible fines and lawsuits. |

Personally I dont think its much of a bother to use another application to convert the wavefile to MP3, but if compressed soundfiles are much desired what about OGG or Windows compression - Can they be legally used?
I do like the idea of supporting open source software, and I am sure that most MT users are "tech" enough to explore other formats than what is mainstream. |

Ogg is completely free. There is no licensing free and can be used in commercial applications as well with no charge.

It's also inside Winlame. Nevertheless (and that's most probably the part you don't understand) you do need to have the wave-export installed to export your tracks to wave. These wave-files can then be encoded to other formats, such as .ogg, .mp3 or .whatsoeveryourencoderallowsyoutodo. |
