MIDI Export and tempo questions

Hello,

I’m new here and I need your advice and a few answers to my questions.
Lately I have to prepare some .mid files (and it seems I will have to make them quite often in a near future). As I’m a tracker addict the best way for me is to just convert tracker tracks into mids. But here the problem arises. So far I’ve been a Modplug user and I’m rather happy with it (especially channel manager and cleanup options are great – seems they don’t exist in MadTracker…), but when it comes to converting songs to mids Modplug fails. So I made a bit of research and MadTracker looks very nice. Anyway – I’ve read tutorials and searched forum but I still haven’t found what I’m looking for Wink
Could you please tell me how MadTracker converts song to .mid? I mean what kind of things are included. For sure tempo, notes, volume is probably converted to midi velocity, and pan is as well. I hope CC commands are also in a final mid file? And what about the automation? So please – could anyone tell me what exactly is included in the final .mid file and how channels/instruments are done?

The second question for now is the one concerning the tempo. Is MadTracker’s tempo accurate? Because most trackers had a problem with it so far. I mean – if I prepare for example a 150bpm loop, will it remain 150bpm (and not 150,006bpm) in sequencers like cubase or acid?

Looking forward to your answers. Thanks in advance.

All the best,
Zak

I bet you don't give a s*** about being the 1000th member but want replies to your questions, right? Wink

Here they are:

- To convert to MIDI, simply go in the File menu -> Export -> MIDI. You'll then have a window where you can map MT instruments to GM instruments. As you guessed, volume and panning are converted (only with a note-on event) - CC commands are not saved in the MIDI (I plan to add them though).

- If you enter 150 BPM you'll get exactly 150 BPM unlike in the other trackers.

That is, unlike in other trackers.

Wow! 1000th member - quite a good reason to stay here for a longer time isn't it? Smile So when exactly I will get to know your sister? Smile

Anyway - it's a pity that CC comands are not included in mids - without them it is impossible to prepare even a simple volume slide Sad Does it mean that Renoise is the only solution in this situation? Grrr - there's something that keeps me away from it, probably colors of their site Wink

Thanks a lot for you answers!
Regards,
Z.

ps.: so let's say that such a wider midi export will be included in MT3 - how far are we from that moment - I mean is there any planned date of release or it is to early to give such statements?

I'll include MIDI CC in the export in the next MT2 release, not MT3 - don't worry. Wink

Yannick

(AFAIK, Renoise doesn't support MIDI export.)

But dude, you're forgetting the cool thing. If all you want is something that you can put into Cubase for further processing, then why not simply hook up Madtracker in Cubase as a rewire slave/instrument? That way you don't even have to play with midi files. You can have the whole package playing on one or several tracks in Cubase instead, but still keep all the options that Madtracker gives Wink Or am I missing something?

I agree that Rewire mode is a really step forward with trackers. But in fact in my case it can’t help. Because I need midi files not exactly for me to work with but for other people and there’s even more to it – I need midi files to put them into hardware sequencer.
To be efficient with it I should learn how to use cubase and probably some virtual sampler to get the proper sounds. I won’t mention the sum of money I would need but what is more important – I’m a tracker addict and I will do everything I can not to change my methods. So that is why I’m searching for a solution in a tracker world.

Regarding renoise – I don’t know a lot about it, I’ve only read on their site that it has a full MIDI support so I thought that midi export exists as well. Seems I’ve been wrong Smile

Regards,
Z.
