If someone mentions the word "mastering", I'm all over it.
I'd like to say again that mastering really isn't everything though, and that it's mixing you should be much more concerned about. Then again, if anyone does want to have a shot at doing their own mastering, I'm only happy to help out. To save you the time and effort though, there are professional places that do it all for you. |

thanks very much for the time everyone put into answering my query (in particular to atlantis).
the reason i asked in the first place was, as atlantis said, to hear my music with a more professional finish, without actually professionally finishing it (well not yet anyway).
ive tried out many of the tips and will have a go with the rest when i have some time, but i can already hear a big difference.
thanks again

Note that a -3.0 dB maximum peak volume typically means a -6.0 dB average peak volume. Just check the waveform with an audio editor and check that the highest peak is typically no higher than about -3.0 dB. You'll have to provide your own hosting for the moment though, or just upload it to YouSendIt.com - one of the reasons my service isn't as expensive as some of the others yet.

The file awaits for you @ YouSendit, check your email (Gmail) for the details , and once again , thank you for taking the time !!!!!!

Coincidence or not, I just got an e-mail from Analog Acoustics concerning their mastering abilities. They offer a one-song-for-free mastering service. I'd say: all send your songs to them, and check out what they are worth. Qbical: I especially would like to hear one of your songs mastered, since they are so transparant and broad in frequencies.

I must say I've noticed a tremendous increase in online mastering services in revent months. I suppose everyone is trying to do the best they can to win the competition, even offering free mastered tracks now.
I've only been running 'professionally' for a few months, but once I really lift off the ground, it's going to be a tough world out there. While I used to rank on the first or second page of Google, I'm now hardly anywhere to be found.
I think a lot of people tend go after the higher-end studios (XARC, Online-mastering, MASSIVE Mastering) in light of receiving the best quality masters, but to a certain extend it isn't the equipment, but the engineer who makes the difference.
I'm still running semi-professional equipment myself, but I do like to think I offer a lot more than most other mastering services, as I hope to make evident here soon. I do admit I'm still going through a learning phase, having only a few years of experience and not quite "being there" yet, why my rates aren't too high yet either. But one day I'm really going to set a new standard in mastering.
Hehe, going a bit off topic. |

im sure we can all relate. Composing, writing, mixing... its all the same type of learning curve.
i've actually noticed this with anything that i learn lately.
im sure any craft that you want to perfect will ultimately be a learning phase your whole life. its all about achieving the best result you can. P.S. where's this song? hmm?? |

w00t! Another releasing MadTracker-user? That's well-wicked! My point nevertheless was that I would like to hear what mastering can do to your tracks, but the fact that they are going to be released probably implies that they will be mastered prior to pressing? |

I submit/preform my own lyric-guitar songs at songwriting contests, but as for officially released to a cd store? no.
some guy approached me last night at a songwriters open mic contest and said he liked my song blah blah blah and gave me his card. i dont know what to think tho. it was my first stage preformance ever...
maybe lucky.
anyways his company is called microStar.tv
oh. you can see pictures of me at the competition @ www.calgarysongwriter.com - its in there somewhere. as for the song, you will have to wait for compo time, im doing a tracked version! |
