Posted: Thu Jul 29 2004 02:45 Merge/Append 2 modules in MT2.5? |
|
One of the most annoying things with MT (and any tracker i've seen) is that it's not possible to merge 2 modules. Ofcause you can load/save patterns, but then you would have to load the correct samples too, and adjust the patterns to the new instrument-numbers, redo the automation etc etc. It makes it kind a' difficult to track in a structured way. It would be cool to f.e. do a beat in a file of it's own, and be able to load that beat into your modules when you feel it would fit. (like code reuse, music reuse is also a good thing) It definately would be easier to mix those small cool pieces you've made over time together. This is something i've allways wanted, but never been able to do.
It doesn't seem like a hard thing to do, as far as i can see. (ofcause some decision problems will arise.. f.e. do you adjust the mixer-volume to that of the new file, or do you keep it as it is etc)
Yannick: Will this feature by any chance get into MT2.5?
(if not, does these fileformat specs contain all the info needed to make a merge-tool like that? (haven't checked it out that much yet)) |

Is it just me or is there no "yes" or "no" option?

I agree with you Zappa. This is a feature I`d like to see to since I have lots of ideas saved but only beginnings or small parts, drum selections. |

This is great idea, I want it bad now that its been mentioned, i write tons of "beats" and have started a habit of just writing new beats appended to a file so i get a string of "bits", maybe 7 different small ideas, then try and do something. This would however make organization much nicer. And i could also use some signature beats very easily. |

No, I won't do that in MT 2.5 and yes you should be able to sort it out with the specs. However, I'd need to update them with the latest improvements (VST, etc.).

The problem I see is: what if you merge two files from different creators? I think, such a tool should refuse to work in such a case, as this would make it easy to bypass all the content protection mechanism MadTracker stores in the files.
Should be no issue with files from the same creator, though.
I think, MadTracker should have its own merging feature built in in order to prevent those issues from happening, ie. no 3rd party tools which might fiddle with those personal information because those can't be merged. |

I think it should be better if you could save a module, or a part of a module as a block (with all samples and vst-paths included) which you then can import in a new module.

yes. thats a good idea. it doesnt sound like it would be too much programming either. similar to copy & paste only it would include file paths. |
