What to export for mastering? |

With the export function under what settings should I export to get the most out of mastering? There is DAT format etc, which goes higher then the standard .wav file. |

just go for the highest setting... |

The settings i use as an export (render) for mastering is :
Select the CD-master preset.The Filters on the highest setting (129-point). The highest type of interpolation (Sinc interpolation).
Be sure the average RMS in your track is about -10 or -11 before starting to master the track ...

How would you check the RMS? Some sort of VST? |

RMS can be checked after the export with the Analysis option in most mastering tools. |

a good analyzer will help you to achieve the highest RMS possible without too bad clipping: http://www.madtracker.org/plugins.php?category=Effect&subcategory=Analyzer
anyways, it's sometimes better to first export the individual tracks into seperate wavs (or export track groups, like export all the tracks containing piano sounds into one wave file) and analyze/process them seperately. it's good to see that what freq regions do the different instruments fill up and where do you have to eq down some to make the other more important ones more clear in the final mix |
