K, the first post in the Using Madtracker room, better make it something eyh? 
maby its nice to post some tactics on 'how to use madtracker and thus create great tracks with it' here.
I'll start off with the madtracker compressor.
Ok, lets say that you have several tracks you use for drums. So you have some hats, a loop, a kick and maby some percussion.
Now if you mix this right in the first place it will sound quite good on it's own but there is a trick you can apply to make the beat more 'pumping'.
how to?
Link all the tracks to the last track where you've got your drum sounds on. Now get an distorion on that track and experiment with the settings.
What you need to do is to get the treshold just about right, what I mean by that is that it should balance between the clean sound and the distorted sound, it should not distort. The fx that remains is called compression.
Try creating a good techno kick, and a simple 909 HH pattern, and use the above trick, now loop the pattern and muting the kick sound from time to time, then you will realy hear the compression trick!

Hmm, I disagree and I agree at the same time...
A compressor brings lower volumes and higher volumes closer together, thus giving less dynamics ( if used to an extreme that is )that is what gives the pumping sound in beats.
The distortion FX essentialy does the exact same thing, it drasticly decreases a sounds dynamics.
But, a compressor is generaly not used for this purouse atleast not in mixing bands and stuff, so I think the proper name for the FX I described is a Limiter, but still if set correctly can be used as a verry rough compressor...

In general I think it is better to play around with the channel filters to get a better "feel" in the drums. There are no given values to use I think so experimenting is the best way.
Also, a very short Reverb on the drums adds some space and stereo fx, Alittle more reverb (but still very short) on the highhats.
The same reverb fx as for the drums also works very good on a bass line where you use bass guitar sounds.
But do remember to just have a slight reverb applied cos you do not want to make the drums (or bassline) "blurry" |

Drums? I saw one of them once. It held a bunch of oil. I believe it was floating in Lake Erie. My basic guidline when dealing with drums is, the bigger and more plentiful the better. What do you think?
