Posted: Sat Jan 01 2005 23:57 [2.5.0 RC5] ReWire host broken since I installed MT 2.5 |
 |
Hello
I installed the newest version of MT2 just to have a peek at some of the new features. They are all great and that, but I think that the rewire functionality of MT2 has somehow broken all my other software which uses rewire.
I usually use Ableton live 4 rewired to Reason 2.5, and since installing MT2 I've been getting bad intermittent stuttering, when using both programs rewired together, and also using them individually. The tune I'm playing never goes above 25% cpu usage, and I've never had any problems like this before
I know the problem is something to do with madtracker, because the first time the stuttering happened, an alert window popped up within Ableton which had a title something like "Madtracker Rewire Error", and the contents of the window said something like "couldn't read data"
I've tried all the obvious things like uninstalling Madtracker, but the problem still happens.
Can anyone suggest whats going on and how to fix it? |

Did you have a MadTracker ReWire error even though you weren't running MadTracker with ReWire?

Yes, as yet I haven't actually tried using rewire with madtracker running. In fact my computer had been completely rebooted since I had last used madtracker. The error appeared about halfway through playing back a song with Live 4 rewired to Reason.
I haven't actually had the error window popup since i've uninstalled madtracker, but the symptoms I had before remain. I'll try reinstalling mt2 to see what happens. |

Ok, thanks for the details.
I'll try to test it under many other hosts than my old Cubase and free Tracktion.
I'll keep you informed of my progress in this thread.

Here is a fix to be able to use Live without the errors:
Go in the Extensions folder of your MadTracker installation and rename the ReWire.mtx into ReWire.mt_.
This way, ReWire hosts won't be able to find the MadTracker ReWire device. No more errors.

Renaming ReWire.mtx to Rewire.mt_ and checking the regkey for the rewirekey as Yannick explained in the other ReWire-bug-post works. Thansk Yannick. |

I now take that back. I've installed all the new files, I've renamed to ReWire.mt_ and fixed the reg, but i still get errors running Ablton Live even when MT is not open. I've also experienced trouble with other audio appz I have'nt had trouble with earlier. I never had this problems before I installed RC5. Now I hope the problem disappears with RC5. |

If you rename the ReWire.mtx to mt_ there is no way for Ableton to load the MT ReWire device. In other words, the file that is pointed by the reg key should not exist.

The errors that appears in Live, the file renamed and the reg-entry. This is what it looks like. |

That's it... You change the registry so that it uses ReWire.mt_ instead of ReWire.mtx.
The whole point of the renaming is that it can't find what the registry points to.
So, change the registry back to .mtx but keep the file renamed as .mt_
