Thanks! I just e-mailed Paul of Treewave with the problem described, and pointed him to this discussion. I'll let you know once I know more.

Paul just contacted me, and provided me the following link:
http://qotile.net/cynthcart.html
He furthermore said the following:
"and as a sidenote, mp3s of audio-data files often do not work (so if you were to send someone a file to try on the real thing, you'd probably want to send a WAV or FLAC file)"
Happy playing! I will try this stuff tonight.

Hey, that little piano keyboard addon looks familiar. I bet that's for the old Kawasaki C64 music products that I've read about in the mid 1980's in the old RUN magazines.
Paul is correct about MP3's, as their compressive nature can introduce bit artifacts in TAP files, making the pulse sequences look different when read back.
Ok, I'm assuming the TAP file was for Cynthcart? If so, I would still wish he would provide the correct TAP file for this proggie, so I can verify loading it in that way. I looked in his website and didn't see a TAP version. |

Ah, that's what you meant. Yes, mine worked. No, it wasn't music, just a piano emulator. The prog wasn't as polished as I thought it would be. Just the ability to play intervals/chords with screen graphics popping up when you hit the keys. Felt sluggish... it may do better (i.e. less latency) with a SchnedlerTurbo or a SCPU, perhaps. |

Yep, it was in the instructions, although mine said SYS 32790. Ah well, that was a week ago so I don't remember. |

Sorry for the lack of posting here: it has been busy round here.
If I understand it correctly, the application is nothing more than a rather minimal piano synth?
Technoid: can you make a screenshot and send it to me or post it here? I would like to know what I'm dealing with before I'm writing my final review of the cd.
Thanks all for your time and interest!

Here is the included docs:

cynthcart
code: paul slocum
http://qotile.net
release 7.11.2003
--------------------------------------------------
-=- files -=-
cnth711.crt = cartridge format with CRT header for emulation
cnth711.prg = disk file format
To load and run:
LOAD"CNTH711",8,1
SYS 32790
--------------------------------------------------
-=- keyboard -=-
the cynthcart works with the sight & sound piano keyboard overlay.
if you don't have one, the piano keys hit the top rows of letters
(qwerty..) and the numbers (2356...).
-=- filter control -=-
the filter cutoff is controlled with paddle A in port 2. you must set
up paddles in the emulator or use a real paddle if you're using it on
a real C64. Otherwise, the filter cutoff will be set at its lowest
point.
-=- settings -=-
currently there are nine patches to choose from:
Z = saw bass
X = saw bandpass
C = saw lowpass

No problem, at least for me. I've been a Commodore nut since 1982 (PET, Vic, C64).
In fact, I coded a C64 program similar to this 20 years ago. I used a Roland Juno 106 as a guideline for the graphics and also coded in joystick and paddles to control the onscreen sliders. Subtractive synthesis parameters I developed included VCO, VCA, LFO and ADSR and ML-routined multi-keying for intervals/chords. I still have the program somewhere on one of my 5.25" floppies, although I don't know if it will load up anymore due to possible mag deterioration. |
