Cute song you did there. The melody is nice but I think the drums could be tamed a bit, they sound a bit harsh and maybe a breakbeat is too fast for the mood in this one. A bit slower beat would suit this piece a bit better. But thats only my personal oppinion.

Hope I could help

I definately disagree with Beatmax, but that's mainly because we stem from different musical backgrounds.

I definately like the contrast between the drums and the cute melody. It has a heavy Aphex Twin approach, but that's more a positive than a negative thing. You need to expand your stuff though. If you wish to work with dynamic beats, then you need to change them each pattern. Use retrigger, different snares and drums, other white noise (hihats and alike) and whatever you can use for percussion (glass, fx, whatsoever) to expand the contrast between the cuteness of the melody and the hard and cold drums.

Now, for some 'grandfather Inge tells his children how HE did thing when he was younger':

Not exactly like your song (the drums are more in coherence with the melody), but it definately has this childstune-character. Check out the review by Sunbuster in the music section of this song for his view on the matter Smile

One hint, try using some EDx effects on the triplets to let them flow a bit better. Also, expiriment with the Rxx command, it retriggers sounds realy fast, this would work great on your drums Smile

Keep it up !

That's a great happy melody! I love the little bells-with-delay part that comes in just after the start. The drums are good too; a little off-time, but experimenting with those EDx commands should of course sort them out. If you write any more of this tune, please let me hear! Smile

I use E9x instead of Rxx for retrigs; it has the same effect but I think Rxx can fade the volume too. They can both get you that great Aphex Twin buzzing snare roll sound!
A really good reference for those commands is FT2.doc, the FastTracker 2 manual; there's a copy at http://www.maz-sound.de/archives/ft209.zip

I hope that helps in some way - sorry if you know it already! Keep up the good work.

Dave

Your song - again! - reminded me of my own work. Check out this song, and see if you can abstract ideas from it:

Quinone - Renesse's Revenge

It also combines childish melodies with non-linear drum programming.
