I'm planning a mixing contest (original thread can be found here), and at this stage would like to know who and what as far as interest is concerned.
To save me having to write a new post, here is a quote of the original text:

I'm sure many of us would benefit learning more (or something) in this area of production [mixing], and so the rules will be simple: Someone provides or suggests a track, preferably one of reasonable length (say, two to three minutes), containing maybe a maximum of 10 instruments. The reason I say this is because those wanting to take part would have to download WAV files (lossless compressed, though) of each of the audio tracks in order to mix them together to produce the final mixdown.
It won't be something that will take a lot of time (say, only two to three weeks), but the point will be to better understand and experience the mixing process, each producing an entry, after which the submissions will be put together into a vote pack from which the winning entry will be chosen by the participants (and perhaps non-particpants).
There won't be any prizes per se, but as I say, it will only be a short track with a limited number of audio tracks, and so it would only take a few hours, stretched over the course of maybe two to three weeks to produce your mixdown. In the end, you will hopefully have learnt a great deal that you didn't know already, even more so after being able to compare your result and settings with the other entries.
It would basically be a way for us to share our mixing knowledge in working with the same material, using our own tools and techniques (final delivery format will be OGG or MP3) to produce a mixdown with regards to EQ, compression, reverb, delay etc.

At this stage, I've concluded that it would be best to use an OHC tune (IT format prefered). Not all samples will be 16 bit, but I don't really see another way (unless I put together a new pack for the sake of this contest, which could be a good option provided people are willing to take part in the OHC).
Anyway, any comments/suggestions at this stage? I've already sparked some interest at CTG Music, and would like to end up with a maximum of 20 entries or so. I will be competing myself too, but the vote pack will be anonymous anyway.
This would be a good opportunity for anyone looking to improve and expand their mixing skills. |

Sure I'll participate. For me it would be easy if it were an mt2 file, because I could just export all seperate tracks to wave. but ofcourse not everybody's registered.... |
what is hip?

Yes, that's why I wanted to keep it either an IT or XM module that people can render in Modplug Tracker.
However, recent developments are heading more towards making it a global contest rather than restricting it to the 'tracker scene' only, uniting a wide range of electronic music producers looking to understand more about what goes on in the mixing process.
I just need to find a suitable track that the artist is willing to submit to the contest. It should be about two to three minutes in length, with a maximum of maybe 10-15 instruments, and preferably electronic in nature. If someone knows of a track, or is able to contribute, please let me know.
The audio tracks will probably be hosted on FeralCode House Music as 320 kbps MP3's, with lossless compressed WAV files available through me for those wanting higher quality.
In the meantime, I'm continuing to spread the word so that more producers may want to join, in the end hopefully resulting in an improvement in mixdown quality throughout the scene. |

If this is to be a pure mixing contest, then I suggest you go with providing only wavs or mp3's of all channels/tracks. |
