Hi guys,

Seems my MT compo 2 and 3 entries even made it ... to the built in MT2 hints (your native language is good enough...)

But what do you think about how Julie (not Caillean, another Julie from Talent, a little town near Dijon, France) sings the vocals in the middle of my 2005 ré-edition of my old trance classic "Antares rising" ? (Don't judge on the intro vocals that are still mine)

You can get the track containing her performance here.

Sunbuster : This has still been recorded with my old mic. The Shure SM58 I've ordered should be delivered to me within a few days Smile

My page is still under construction. No link from there works.
It's written in French indeed.

You should try the direct link to the file (It's the link I gave in my previous post, didn't I ?) : http://tnk.madtracker.net/tnk_feat_julie___antares_rising.mp3

Hmm...
I came to your mainpage before you edited the link:D

Nice track, and nice vocals, however I find her "s" a bit too sharp, almost annoying sharp:D Don't know if its the microphone or just her voice:D also a bit more reverb on her voice would have been nice in this track:D

Blame my dying microphone for this (I've ordered a Shure SM58 now - Amateur times are over !)

It's definitely the mic !

OK, I'll fix this within the next days.
Tnx for the tip.

I think the vocals are already way too much blurred out to add even more reverb. I can hardly make anything out of the vocals, which can be: 1 a cover-up for a bad accent, or 2: over-production of the vocals, or 3: just an unstable voice that cannot express itself with enough power.

I'm in any case not convinced that you should use English vocals. The lyrics - with all respect - are ofcourse utter crap anyway concerning their meaning (I could make out 'party', 'fun', 'dancing' and 'night', so it's probably about, oh, absolutely nothing), and I'm not certain if in dance (where vocals primarily are an instrument, and not a vehicle to transport an underlaying message) using French would be a problem. Manau's Le tribut du Dana and O-Zone's Dragostea din Tei are classic examples of the simple fact that language is unimportant, and that the music itself is the key to success.

Go French. If I had to review her voice now inside this song, I would burn it.

Well, what I could make out of the delayed/reverbed vocals her pronounciation seems to be ok. But this would be easier to judge with a clean(er) sample of her singing, not one that is delayed so that is sounds like she's singing on a stadium.

wow, the delays is just messing my head up, not in a good way tho. might be why I have such a hard time hearing what she sings. I agree with Sunbuster, clean it up and give is a new example.

cheers

hmm the whole mix seems a bit 'verby' it pushes the whole track back and makes it lack energy...

About the vocal...

quite nice, but maby it's better in french anyway for the reason that inge gave you...
About the production side, try to filter the delay, and use a lowpass filter that way the effect is maintained but the high delays are eliminated thus increasing the 'clarity' of the vocal

I kinda like her accent, it somehow reminds me of Kate Bush. In any case she deserves some actual lyrics, unless she wrote this crap herself. Production in terms vocals is lacking to say the least. I can't comment further on the track because I hate it. Please don't be offended, I hate all trance.

Oh btw, at the end where she's repeating 'Antares is rising' I feel like gouging my eyes out to prevent me from clicking forum links again. That has got to be off-key.

I feel like commenting on the track, after hearing the first one and a half minute. do something about the mix. the limiting is awful.

about the singing. the english is probably good enough, though i don't understand at all what she's saying. but that can be thought of as cute. i don't like the way she sings btw, the melody is just all wrong if you ask me. not out of tune (that 'antares is rising' near the end is btw. or at least ugly), just not good.

sorry about my harsh comments, i'd redo the whole track if i were you. and get a good pop screen.

what is hip?

I dont think her english is good enough in this recording. It seems to me she is struggeling with the words and therefore doesnt really convey much sentiment or feeling with her singing.

Other than that I thought this was quite an impressive production, as far as I can tell this sounds pretty much like most of the comercial stuff that is played on radio etc.
