I've had this teaser running in the background in repeat for about 30mins.
First impression was not good, - most of all I was totally confused by your mixing the 4 different tracks into one.
After that I will divide the teaser into three different parts:
1. I find Maryleen's voice very special - it reaches out with its high pitch, as you also pointed out in earlier posts. I fairly believe she can hit the big music market with her voice.
2. The songs are to 80's-90's for me to swallow without protests. I endured this kind of commercial music on the radios for 15 years, and the shit is hitting the fan again. I personally would never buy or listen to this CD, because it is just not my taste of music to listen to. I would rather go buy a new CD by Sting, Eric Clapton, Robbie Williams or Madonna... Which clearly states how far off my personal likings are from this kind of commercial 80-90's dance music.
3. These songs are very well composed! They have nice elements and sfx features that intrigues me as a composer. There is basically nothing wrong about how the compositions have been made with melody and harmonies. I would be very proud if this was my own work, and I could also see myself doing this kind of music if I saw a big promotion with a even bigger money-bag waiting for me in the end of the journey.
Is the music itself catchy? Maybe for a 15 year old french schoolgirl, but I am sure you wouldn't get many Scandinavian parents as buyers of x-mas presents to their kids of this CD - if it was released before X-mas this year. But that also is affected by the fact that most scandinavians doesn't enjoy listening to anything else than English or local language in their taste of music/songs/lyrics.
Overall: Great voice, nice production, but wrong centaury to hit a big selling CD market.
Suggested changes: Get new song inspirations, start a new project with that after completing the current project.
Expectations: Low CD sales on this project, especially in foreign countries that doesn't have french as primary language. But if Maryleen is a good performer, she could drag in some money on live tourings/concerts. There is always a scope for this kind of music in this particular project on City festivals as "Live" entertainment etc. |
