That emulator is called Rosetta, and it's only necessary for software that hasn't been compiled for the x86-instruction set of the Intel cpu. A comparison between software performance in native mode and in Rosetta can be found here. Especially interesting is the comment:

In the multimedia-school where I studied a couple of years ago, we had nothing but Mac. We (the students) often complained about it, since we all had pc's at home and that's what we were used to, but after the first year we all came to realise that Mac is the obvious choice when working professionally with multimedia and graphics. I've never worked with a more stable computer than the G5's we had. The only downside I can remember was that 3dsmax didn't work on anything else than pc at the time.
Audiobahn Records in Copenhagen also uses Mac in their studio and everything worked flawlessly the last time I was there.
Off course I will probably never be able to afford a Mac, but if I was to buy a new computer today (and if money was no object) I would buy a mac without a doubt. |

Well this is not true.
OSX was developed from the ground up to run on both PowerPC and Intel processors, so, osx runs great on the new intel chips, it's just that other programs that you'd want to run ( like photoshop ) are not yet recoded to what apple calles "universal binary" versions, those versions take advantage of the x86 chips. But as I said some programs aren't recoded yet so for those programs there is indeed an emulator 'Rosetta', wich makes the PPC software run on an intel mac.
But lot's of software is already available for the intel mac, and OSx is definatly not emulated it runs a lot faster on a macbook pro then on my powerbook. |

I hear people saying 'almost everything that can be done on a pc can be done on a mac too these days'. That seems like a lame argument to me. How about 'everything that can be done on a mac can be done on a pc nowadays'?
I haven't looked into the whole mac vs pc debate, and I know nothing of the macbook in question here. I know that for an allround computer (laptop or desktop) I want something that will do the job. Now, if I had a recording studio and wanted ProTools I would definitely have a mac (like we had on the SAE institute ProTools Studio). Or maybe if you're a graphic artist. But even then... |

I'd get a mac, but they are too damn expensive (My limit's $2500AU) and apparently slow as all hell. Do they still have the single button mouse too?  |

Look, it's very simple.
Get a Mac if you want a system that all the components work well together. It will be a bit limited, but you will have virtually no compatibility issues. Mac makes it all.
Get a PC if you want versatility. You can do a lot more with a PC, there's a whole world of options. You might have to hunt for drivers to make something work, but if it doesn't work you can usually find another way to do what you want anyway.
Now please, please, PLEASE let this subject die. Ten years of this argument is more than enough. |

About Vista, if you haven't gotten it yet..... DON'T! Wait a year or so, let everyone else find all the bug, look for the drivers. Let everyone else find out the answers; that way when you do get Vista and get that error message, you can just google it . |

Eh, I've been running Vista for almost a couple of days now....
You're right about the drivers btw. M-Audio doesn't have Vista drivers yet. But I figure they will soon enough. Also, Vista doesn't run flawless yet, but I haven't had many problems either. |

Hey guys! I just bought a MacBook Pro only to run madtracker on it, what dya think of that? I own a g4 powerbook but it didnt run windows fast enough, finally i can make music again:D Just hate pc.. If I could choose : Madtracker would be an OSX only app.
And finally a bit off topic, check out http://cobolt.no where youŽll find that my band has released an album made with a lot of help from madtracker. Feel free to comment!

Madtracker as an OSX app would make my very happy, would finaly give me a chance to leave windows behind me...
