Is MadTracker suitable for the beginner

I suspect that I'm not the first to ask this question, but.....
From the point of view of someone with musical training but a modest background using computers, I ask those who consider themselves to be quite skilled in both areas, do you think that MadTracker is a suitable application or should I check-out other apps. to find something a little less sophisticated?

Remember from the point of view of someone unskilled in these matters the MadTracker GUI looks pretty intimidating.

While on the subject, do you think this website provides enough in the way of basic tutorials for the beginner?

I am looking forward to reading your replies.

Thank you;

well, trackers in general might look hard at first sight, especially if you are not too familiar with computers, so maybe you should try out something less sophisticated at first. for example tunafish from http://www.brambos.com/. you won't have to deal with too many dirty technical details in it, still it gives you a decent enough degree of freedom.

however, you can also give a try to madtracker. first off, read through the quickstarter guide: http://www.madtracker.org/tutorial.php and also check out the chat if there are some idling, more experienced mt users online willing to help you out.

Madtracker is suitable for the beginner. However, like with any music production tool, you're going to have to spend some time learning how to use before it'll do exactly what you want.

You ask if you should look for something less sophisticated. The answer is NO. I don't think you'll ever find an application that significantly easier to use, every application takes time to learn.

You asked about tutorials, you should try the quick start guide, and check out the Madtracker Wiki. Also, we'll gladly help you out in the forum, or with the built in chat function in Madtracker.

what is hip?

MadTracker is easy to figure out, even without manuals. The GUI is just a matter of getting used to it, I dont find it very intimidating comparing it to renoise and.. such

This website definately provides enough info to ge you started and help you further with advanced questions because of the quite experienced userbase.. ehm.. yeah Very Happy

you find madtracker sophisticated... hmm once you get used to it.. nah, anyway if you dont find the basic manuals to be "deep"enoguh there is always beatmax's site

http://beatmax.madtracker.net/mt2tutor/

... I perhaps didnt make a lot of sense.. but I am tired Razz

cheers

Heh. MT2 is like eating pie compared to Renoise, and eating chocolate compared to Cubase. Nethertheless, once you are confident in MT2, get Renoise, Reason, FL Studio and Cubase. I like variety Smile and I'm not comparing MT2 to Renoise.

I agree with oldbrian - if you're not real familiar with computers in general, a tracker might have a much steeper learning curve than you'd enjoy. If you can get past that, though, it's a very useful program for learning the ins and outs of digital musicking. Smile
