drums again! :)

Hi!

I posted a topic earlier about drum samples and software based drum synths.

Now i'm going to ask you about hardware based equipment. Wink
Can you suggest some drum machines or drum synths that will produce nice drum sounds (d'n'b, break-beat, hip-hop etc)

And can you tell me please about all those nice d'n'b style drum sounds. Where do they come from?? Smile
For example (maybe not the best example bud i hope you get my point) in dillinja track "cover me"

Thanks!

DnB Breaks

These days Dillinja often uses a unique recording of a drumkit he had done specially and I guess he adds his own twist to it.... (that's why he has a sampling warning on his albums now). But he has used some classic breaks in the past.

Here's 3 good sources for DnB raw breaks... remember to chop and mangle them completely and don't be afraid to layer them, (eg, Amen and Tighten up = Tramen ... so called because first done by DJ Trace)

Tnx for your reply!

I downloaded some breaks but i can't listen to them right now cause i don't have sound card here at work. Sad

Anyway, i'm sure they sound pretty cool. But the problem is that i don't want to compose songs from loops made by somebody else, cause then i don't feel like the song is composed by me Wink Besides then there is a copyright problme etc
So i want to know, where do these samples that are contained in these loops come from! Smile so i can make my own loops/breaks.

I agree. Better to make your own "breaks" from scratch.

Classic breaks are usually sampled off 70's funk, rock and gospel records etc, so aren't built with samples. Think of them as raw material.

Try soulseeker, and browse through the offered files by single users. There are many sample-providing users around, with hdd's full of drumkits. It takes a while searching, but I think it's worth the effort.

I got one time+space cd-rom, and it sucks massively. It's rather old though, so it could be that they started delivering better cd's nowadays. I would check at other users what their experience is before buying it.

This sucks. Stolen samples, terrible stabs and useless sequences. Avoid everything related to this cd!

I really can't say a thing about their other cd's. Consider searching for user information at various fora.

Maybe that's why "C.E. vol. x" cd-s are quite cheap (20£), compared to others that cost around 60£

But thanks for your info, i will be careful with C.E. etc series.
