post the file itself. its difficult to say without seeing it.
Watch if you copied that automation in the new pattern too.
This can be the case. |

i personally haven't figured out the whole automation thing yet ... it's on my "to do" list
i know that if you don't use automation, the effect will play throughout the entire file, regardless of the pattern. you don't have to set the effect for each pattern. |

If you need to play an instrument without that effect, play it in another channel. |

You don't need to.
Understand this:
1.) The effect you put on the channel is there forever until you remove it.
2.) The ONLY way to alter it, is to use automation, which is much more difficult than...
3.) Your solution; which is to play your samples in a new channel. |

speaking of automation ...
... is there a "simple" way to learn it, other than just trial and error? |

Perhaps i didn't make myself clear enough. After I make a new pattern that is EMPTY there is (and this is the best I can do to describe it) a continual echo made from the last note played. It is eternal and it is a continuous note. So whatever was playing last it just continues, with the same pitch and effect. Sadly I got angry and deleted madtracker and the file so I can't post it. But I will redownload madtracker and try again but it's frustrating because I did try the automation and that didn't work either! The automation tool seems simple enough...which automation setting would silence this rampant pattern note??
Thanks for all replies! |

Are you playing the old pattern first? Maybe it's a looping sample. Tried using the "note off" command? It's the key to the left of your z key.
If it's an echo from FX, you have set the echo time and feedback way too high probably.
Automation is not your solution. If you knew how to work automation correctly, you'd know enough to solve the problem you have right now without automation anyway.
If you're using a VST then automation may be the only choice tho. Depends on the VST. |

After careful scrutiny of the madtracker demo tracks...Fault found: it was the note off key all along. I didn't even know it existed. Thanks for your patience Souleye!
Problem solved. |
