When making music in MT2 the boring and timewasting part is writing down all the tones, making automation, finding samples etc etc. The nice thing is when it's all finished. We all know this.
In this aspect MT2 is not optimal, and since this is 2003 (soon 2004) it is really sluggish that it still is like this.
If would be nice (=it is absolutely required for a musiceditor in 2003!) it there would be an AI that would do all this boring stuff for you, so you didn't have to waste your time doing it. I guess such AI is allready made for MT3, but it would be nice if you could throw the code in MT2 too in the next version.

What do you mean? An instant hit button? Give up some parameters like style, BPM and it makes the song for you? |

I agree with Zappa!. What we need is an empty shell (which will be MT3), copled via internet to a database of unreleased and copyright-free songs. When you start up MT3, it should ask for:
-style
-length
-impact on audience
and it should load a specific song that automatically becomes yours.
Oh, how I hate making music myself...let's automate!

Strange, I thought Nintendo covered this...
Right, well, yeah sure, some of the stuff can be classed as boring, but is it really noticed?
Barely enough time is spent on setting BPM, ticks, LPB, length, etc, to notice how boring it may be, and whatnot, but really, why resort to AI?

Inge??! Bah! You snuck that message in!
...though your further suggestions on the matter do show a bit of light on the original suggestion |

Don't forget a plugin which modifies a mix to different levels of how "expensive" it sounds. The lowest levels will sound like protracker and the highest level will sound like a 100.000 euros studio..

lol, what the?!
Well, while strange (yet perfectly logical) suggestions are in play here, how about some kind of webcam capabilities or something...?
Motion sensing technology! Yeah! Alright!
Make music and jump around the work place like an idiot! That'd be fantastic!!
...well they did it for EyeToy : Play for the PS2 |

The eyetoy is one cool gadget though. It should record the speed of the motions and convert it to a bpm and the motions you make should be converted to certain notes (depending on how far your arms stretch) |

Yeah! And um, yeah, if you ever want a quick random selection of notes, just point the webcam at some traffic... or a fish |

And what is left of "making music" without all that stuff?

I was thinking something like this: There could be a dropdown menu with 5-20 items. Like for example: "The best music ever made", "Extreamly fucking cool", "cool!",...,"pretty bad, but still okay",...,"bad", "totally lame and boring crap", "the worst piece of shit ever made".
Then you could select an item from that dropdown-menu, and MT2 would create the music you just made. This would strip away the boring and mindless part of making music, and we could enjoy the good moment of having finished a good (or maybe very bad...) piece of music, without all that boring nonsense. We would have more fun. Also we would get more productive.
It now becomes a challenge to make good music, as the bad composers will select the lower items, and the good trackers would select some of the higher items. Those who are exreamly amazing composers, will select the highest item. (but this will probably never happen)
Maybe to make it even more a challenge there could be more dropdown-menus the higher items you select (like f.e. if you select the highest item, you have to navigate your way through 3 dropdown menues, before madtracker makes the music you composed). This will make the bad composers loose patience, and just select the lower items. Most people will probably make bad music then, but it will seperate the good composers from the bad ones. (don't think i would have the patience to make a really good track myself - but i'm also very impatient)
Just my 2 cents |

I read somewhere about a program that was able to produce new scores from Bach compositions (I think it was Bach). It analysed the composition and based on that was able to rewrite something similar.
It would be interesting if one could write a program in which you could enter a few parameters and the program would take these and the music theory and some randomness to produce a composition. Would this work? Can it be done?
