Hi guys
Complete NooB question ......
Are MOD files created by MT 100% compatible with FMOD and or WINAMP ?
I ask as I've just found that MODPLUG uses non standard Mod files and Im now looking for a replacement Editor for my musician buddy..... and MT looks excellent !

As I want to playback in game using FMOD (www.fmod.org) I have to save the MOD in XM format.
What do we loose in the MT editor ?
Ive noticed
New Note Actions (NNAs)
Duplicate Check Actions (DCAs)
Disabled. is there anything else ? |

Track effects, automation, stereo samples, filters, etc.
Btw, you can use the MT2 plugin for Winamp.

The problem I have is that I want to play the MOD in game.
Both FMOD and BASS dont recognise MT2 files (unfortunatly) |

Save as XM and then get Modplugtracker (www.modplug.com) and convert to MOD .. Beware of the MOD-formats limitations though!

Saving as an XM defeats the object of having MT.
The music DLLs' out there need to be updated to incorporate all the new stuff programs like MT are creating.
Someone do a DLL player ! |

Well, I told you about the MT2 plugin for Winamp. You can use it as a replayer DLL. Just pretend you are Winamp and it'll work.

I AM WINAMP !!!!!!! - nah still doesnt work
Are you planning on doing a replayer for us programmer types ? - I see that your Modplug DLL only has 4 export functions - none of which (unless Im Winamp) I can use.
Ive contacted FMOD who said they "might" have a look at it - but hey that was a big might.....
Our musican loves the program but we cant let him use it if we cant use his creations.
p.s. lovverly site design ! |

I might be missing the point here, but wouldnt registrering Madtracker solve all your problems...? Purchasing pro registration enables you to export your MT files to the wav format, and then it would be easy to convert your music to any format that Fmod supports... like Mp3 or OGG

The main reason for wnating MOD files is their small size.
A typical 3 min MP3 file is something like 3MB - whereas a mod tune will be say 600k ( I know depends on the samples )
Its the difference between someone wanting to download a 4MB (with mod files) game and one that is 10MB (with Mp3s').
Currently our guy is using Modplug (which is pretty ygly compared to MT) which comes with a ready made DLL. Since I started thsi thread Ive now moved to BASS.DLL http://www.un4seen.com/bass.html which plays ModPlugs features but alas not MTs'. |

Ummh, why don't you use mp3 format? I see no reason to use mod files in a game these days. But if you insist, I would assume from Yannick's words that you can find some documentation how to use a winamp plugin in your own program.
edit: bleh, should read more carefully before posting.
Anyway I don't see how filesize would be issue these days... |

The Winamp plugin allows you to load a MT2 file and to get the output to a buffer. It won't deal with the soundcard at all. But if FMOD or BASS can deal with raw buffer and send them to the soundcard, then you're done.
It shouldn't be very complicated.
