Try using the Filter Track Effect. I've managed to boost up the bass quite much with that one.
Try this setup:
Type: Bi-Peak
Cutoff: Around 500-2500 hz
Resonance: 128 (depending on how much you want to boost)
Width: Around 2500-6500
I have an example of this, but I have no time of preparing it. Maybe later..

I use that trick VERY often. Perfect for adding that "slap-in-the-face" on your kicks when making psytrance i.e. As you said also very good to boost up real basslines. This is the trick I would've recommend as well. Just keep in mind that if you push the filter too hard is might distort, and we don't want that now do we?

aRGee"]Another way to create a fatter sound is adding a flange:
Delay: Around 128
Period: Doesn´t matter
Amplitude: 0
Nice on basslines.

This trick can be great on some bass-samples, but remember that it doesn't only boost the bass, it also modifies the sound (keep amplitude on 0 to avoid flanging). So if you've already found the sound you want, this trick is not to recommend. Still a very nice trick you keep in mind for other "special" occasions
