Well, apperantly pll like my music 'cause I've been asked to join a group of people that make a radio show Nothing big and fancy or anything. Just a group of friends with a radio studio. Actually I must say they HAD a radiostudio cause they've been kicked out (dunno why, probably had something to do with the rent). The only way to keep the radiostation alive before we find a more permanet solution is to broadcast via the internet at my place. With leads me to my question: Is there any way to make my mic louder? Al the thingys in windows and stuff are at max but you litteraly have to scream to be able to hear you own voice when we play it back. Is there some hidden setting we're overlooking or should we just buy a new mic?
(maybe the first bit of my post about the radio station and stuff wasn't nessesary. Guess I just like to brag a bit ) |

Umm, your soundcards volume setups? Recording volume? And make sure that your microphone is not plucked in the line-in hole, there is a place for michrophone too i hope.
And what is your mic like? a "normal" dynamic or condenser?
I think you should just first check your windows sound setups, it might also be in your mic but in don't but i doubt it. There is the small mixer or speaker icon in the system tray? if it doesn't show the recording levels there might be in the menus a option where you can choose it to show them
Or in the worst case you bought a condenser mic and it needs phantom power, but it has been working before has it?! If you don't know the difference beetween condenser and dynamic, well dynamic is usually the normal looking where you sing or speak to, and it takes just the short range sounds and the condenser takes long distance sounds too. |

Should give the most basic functions to make your signal better (realtime compressor/limiter/filter). I can remember seeing software that also included an optimizer/enhancer/stereo spreader in a realtime program, but I can't find it at the moment.
About the mic: probably the phantom power. Furthermore, soundcards that come with their own mixing software (almost everyone nowadays) can have their settings separated from the windows audio mixer. Check both the mixer of your soundcard as the windows one, and check that in both mixers the volume is all up. Furthermore, the mixer of your soundcard itself might have an option 'boost mic' (it has for my terratec). Consider checking the website of your card manufacturer to see if there is an update for the software for your soundcard.
And let me know once you guys start broadcasting; would like to hear it as a fellow-radiomaker

And you're 100% certain the mic doesn't need phantom power, or if it does, that it has phantom power? |
