I've always envied musicians who have the Yamaha SW1000XG audio card. This is a professional product and thus priced at above normal consumer costs. Even though it was made in the late 1990's, it's still a viable card to have these days, even though it is starting to show its age. I think the street price should be under $500 USD now, though I haven't verified that. And that's if there's still any left to purchase.

Hi Technoid,

how is the frequency response of the card? Is it more flat or more rippled? I saw a SBLIVE Audigy and a Terratec DMX 6 Fire in comparison and the Terratec frequency response was pretty flat where the Audigy was rippled. Well I dont use my Sblive for sampling I am using sampling CDs for that.

I don't know firsthand, but many people I have contact with on a Ham Radio group, have mentioned that the external SoundBlaster USB Audigy 2 NX, has proven to have much less noise than the internal version. I guess there is less noise pickup when the card is farther away from the internal parts of a PC.

Yup. For instance, some terratec 6fire with frontbay users have placed the thing completely outside. Loads of trustworthy and tech-interesting information on soundcards can be found down at http://forum.rightmark.org/ This forum is essential reading for everyone who is planning to buy a (semi) professional soundcard.

BM,
I have no idea, as I don't own one. However at the link below, there's this little soft tool that can modify the EQ/FR of the SW1000XG. As a side note, keep in mind that this card's intended audience are pro MIDI users, especially those that use the Yamaha XG superset. It's getting older, but like I said, it's still damn good.

This guy uses it in his config... http://www.xs4all.nl/~willefg/gig-rig/gig-rig13.html

So far, I've seen them priced as low as £300. Seems a bit too high still, heh.

If you are still curious, here are the actual manuals for it...

I don't know if this is useful for all soundcards, but I know it works with the soundblaster series.
If you have other applications that change your settings, this program will allow you to save and restore your settings for different programs.

This has been very useful.
Check it out.

Funny app. Terratec dmx has it built-in its software, and it proves to be useful if your activities with your soundcard vary a lot (external sampling, internal production etc).
