Need recommends on software mixer

Hey all,

Remember my post on hardware mixers? Well, while I think I have my eyes set to buy a particular model, it may be awhile until I get one purchased. So, my next question is: What audio/vocal mixing studio software do you have or recommend? I'm trying out some at the moment. I am looking for freeware or maybe some cheap shareware.

An additional question is: Are there any professional-quality (or close) microphones out there for computer connection, i.e. the mic port on the soundcard? Aren't they at 8 ohms?

Thanks!

SB,
So how much was the student version?

Martin,
Yeah, I've had Goldwave (demo) for years, but wasn't sure if it had live vocal/instrument dubbing, e.g. play track 1 while recording vocals on another track, so I gave up on it. Not sure if the registered version does that. They do have that Multisequence, which I've never downloaded yet, so I guess it's time to check it out!

/me showed his student card too to the man behind the counter of the almighty soulseek shop, and he also agrees that certain things in life are sometimes more cheap than one expected.

[occassional coughing. nevermind.]

Well, it was free of charge after I pointed my trusted Mule to various internetlocations which had nothing to do with Adobe, other than that they distribute their software to students Wink

LOL, you guys kill me. Laughing

Well, maybe I'll find a free/demo copy of Audition in it's original existence, i.e. CoolEdit.

Anyway, I found a couple more soft dubbers and will play around with them.

offtopic: 'audition' as a query in soulseek gives *loads* of pr0n as a result. Turns out to be that a lot of asian girls enjoy doing auditions for, er, quite specialized movies.

[coughing mode on]

EDIT: Yeah, it should be possible! Good Luck.

I dont know if you can play and record at the same time within Goldwave - but if you let another application (Winamp or whatever) play the background music you surely can record your voice/instrument with it. I have added one of my face-altering-wahwah-guitar-solos to a piece this way Wink(You may have to update your Goldwave version) Just make sure your Windows record settings are set up properly Smile Good luck.
Well, I tried that, i.e. playing the music on Media Player then quickly hitting the Record button in Goldwave. The big problem is, "They don't sync!" And it's a pain in the bee-hive to try to stretch, cut or line up your recording with the original music. It's a total waste of time. Which is why I'm playing with some real dubbing software. I don't think a registerd Goldwave has this feature and I haven't really played around with Multisequence that much yet. It's demo is kinda too crippled for me.

Heh, I'm the only one driving this thread in the right direction. Very Happy
