Posted: Mon Dec 26 2005 17:34 [2.6.0] ASIO problems |
 |
I'm sorry to have to be the one to start up a bug thread for the new MT 2.6.0, but that's just the way it is This one is for problems regarding ASIO.
I get this empty error box (screenshot) when I activate the ASIO driver for my Phase 28. The same box appears if I try to change the outputs to something else. To get ASIO to actually work I first have to select and apply another audio device and then re-select the ASIO for Phase 28 device. It will again give me the empty error box, but when I click ok sound outputs will work and Madtracker plays as expected.
If I have ASIO for Phase 28 selected and then restart MT, it will give this same empty error box. After MT has started up it seems as if it's using a wave or DX device, even though ASIO for Phase 28 remains selected in the configuration window (I know this because the output is routed to the default stereo pair 1-2, instead of the ones I had previously set). In the configuration window however no ASIO outputs are visible (only a empty box).
In order to get ASIO to work I again have to apply another sound device and then re-select the ASIO for Phase 28 device. If I want the outputs to be visible in the configuration I have to either re-select the device from the drop down again, or close and re-open the configuration window.
I have no doubt that the ASIO drivers of the Terratec Phase 28 are partly to blame for this problem (yes, these days I am one of those that think's Terratecs drivers are shite). I tried using Asio4All and it was more stable than terratecs own drivers. It seems Asio4All is using more CPU resources though, since tracks that had no problem playing with the native drivers started to stutter and cause bit errors almost immediately with Asio4All.
Even though Asio4All seems to correct the problem with the error box and it thus would suggest that the drivers of the Phase 28 are to blame, I do believe there are some issues within Madtracker also, since other programs seem to work just fine with the Phase 28 ASIO drivers (Kristal audio engine for instance has no trouble finding and using the outputs and inputs). |

I have an E-MU 0404 card, newest drivers at the moment from E-MU's site (1.82 I believe) and Windows XP Pro SP1 and am experiencing difficulties with ASIO as well. I'm quite new to my soundcard, but had it working in Cubasis and other software on ASIO already though. I have no idea if it's the drivers here to blame, or MadTracker itself. Just thought I'd post this here as people are having similar problems...
I find it quite random to get the sound working on ASIO, requires a few disablings and re-enablings of the ASIO channels from the sound card control panel software (Patchmix DSP, also of the latest version currently available, 1.81 I believe.). But well... that would be bearable.
The thing that isn't bearable, is closing the tracker. Firstly, it won't close at all. I'll have to kill it. And secondly, it takes the sound card down with it. No audio anywhere, and the control panel for the sound card gets stuck as well, so no means to fix it except for a reboot. Oh and rebooting won't work either. The system won't do that too, I'll have to go and push the reset button. >< |

Yep, I've got the same problems as Ilnore, I've got an E-MU 1212m as I said before and use this PatchMix DSP thing also..
I have a clue though. When I start up MT, the logo keeps hangin behind the frames, but in front of the pattern it seems, so the logo doesn't disappear completely. What does it have to do with closing? Well, it seems to overmaster MT's interface and other windows. When I press End Task via the Task Manager, MT will ask if I want to save the module, but as I said, it won't respond, untill I press End Task a couple of more times and as soon as that window repeats untill it is out the field of the logo, it is clickable. I've been noticing this when using MT's Wave Editor, cause when I wanted to enlarge the Wave Editor it wouldn't when my mouse was on the MT logo whilst trying. I dragged the edges I wanted to enlarge outside the logo's field and it would work...
Well, I hope this info is exactly what you are looking for Yannick, even though it seems quite weird to blame the MT logo (which I find very cool, because of the really nice colors!), but you never know, I'm not a programmer |
Sure......I am the MCP....Or just MC...Uhmmm...I make battle music...There....That is more then enough... |

 |
Hi!
I was most thrilled to know that MT finally supported ASIO, but was disappointed when ASIO4ALL reported the output of every single soundcard I tried (four completely different interfaces) as Unavailable... Maybe it's just me that don't know how to configure ASIO4ALL, it sure hates me though .
MT is the only prog that has this issue - starting to wonder if ASIO4ALL v2.6 is unsupported by MT or something.
Anyone that actually gets ASIO4ALL to work with MT? |

For ASIO4ALL to report the channels, you have to activate it first, then go back in the config afterwards.
It seems like it can't say what channels are available before it's actually enabled.

I had Asio4All running with MT2.6 and it seemed to work pretty well. I had to make sure though that there were no other programs using my soundcard, because otherwise the soundcard would get locked somehow and it would not allow me to enable Asio4All. Also to note is that Asio4All, on my rig at least, turned out to use a lot more CPU time than the native ASIO-drivers. |

Thanks for the answers, but hmm, didn't get that activation part... I thought it was enabled right away after the installation as long as you choose it in the MadTracker config? After all, 4 different machines has the same issue but works in e.g FL Studio. There's only one soundcard to choose anyway.
Also, I tried removing everything but the antivirus from the Task Manager in WinXP as I thought something was using the soundcard, without any good. The output of the Creative card was still reported as Unavailable.
There's obviusly some easy part i'm doing wrong, but what?
Aw well, ASIO is not that important as long as I still can track music
PS. Yes, ASIO4ALL is CPU intensive but it is also my only way to use ASIO when I don't have a super new card with it's own drivers.
EDIT: It works now! All I had to do was to disable sound processing and then choose ASIO4ALL!
Finally it makes some sense to me: MadTracker used the one soundcard which was assigned to ASIO4ALL, and because of that it wouldn't let me use it again. I knew it was something really simple
Final Words:
Thanks to Sunbuster for the theory that helped me and Yannick for implementing ASIO for us |

Small update in the hopes that my ASIO problems can be solved further: I installed the fix that was posted in the help section. It did not solve the issue, but I now get a proper error message (yay!) and it says the following:
ASIOinit failed!
Error: 0
This now appears where there previously was only an empty box. Doing the procedure I described in my first post still gets things working again. |

I was in high hopes after reading from the version history, that 2.6.1. would correct some ASIO stability problems, but still my problem persists partly in version 2.6.1. So, Madtracker kills all the ASIO channels I've set up for it, plus the separate windows wave channel still after closing the program. Nothing helps except a reboot. Still using the same hardware and same versions of everything except Madtracker, versions described above in my previous reply. |

Yup I'm still having problems aswell, even with low cpu modules madtracker stutters under a high cpu load with asio, and it gives a click when going from one pattern to another...
And the error msg keeps popping up from time to time, sometimes after I opened a random VST plugin into the track I'm working on.
I'm using M-audio's latest drivers ( 2005 ) |
