Some Good Hiphop/Rap Samples?

Hey Everyone,

I think this post seems a bit silly, but I've been searching on a lot of sample sites (even from the ones that Inge posted) .. for some good samples to produce some Hiphop/ Rap beats

It feels like i've been searching all over the internet and I still haven't found some simple reasonable samples.. I even consider paying for this stuff..

Maybe someone knows a link or has some hiphop/rap samples?

please let me know

What kind of samples are you looking for? Drums? I can hook you up with some, but I'll also give you a tip: check out your parents old record collection, and look for drums to sample. Also: just load you drumsample in cool edit or whatever and compress/limit/eq/whatever to get a phat sound.

I know, but that's why ask, what kind of samples? But yes, some of the phattest beats are made with samples. It's also cool to do it the Dre way, you find a loop you really like, but it doesn't sound good when looped (poor quality, offbeat, whatever), just program the melody yourself with a synth. Some of his best beats were made this way.

There was a very nice battery-kit, called Miscreant by Tommy B. Itīs contains some very nice hip-hop-drumsamples. Got it from www.kvr-vst.com. Maybe itīs still there.

A nice way to program a hiphop- (or any other) beat, is to download or sample a bunch of loops and chop them into separate drum-samples. Then use these samples to make your own beat, layer snares, apply compression, distortion and so on.

edit: found it:
http://www.kvraudio.com/bank.php?m=dl&id=440

If the link doesnīt work you probably have to register first at kvr. The battery-kit contains *.wav-files which you can load into madtracker ofcourse Very Happy.

you could do that.. but thats a bit amaturistic.
im a hop-hop producer myself, and i produce/compose everything from scratch.
music/beat etc. thats the best way if you want to have a professional sound, but offcourse you need some experience in chords notes and so, or you can just experiment with it.
of course you can do it also the other way.
take a nice loop from a song or loop, and cut the instrument out what you like, and arange it the way you want, no problem.
i personely use professionely studio sample discs (2cd's)
its a great collection of drums, snares, instruments etc.
you should look for it.
forgot the name though sorry.
BTW walter what do you mean by programing the melody whit a synthasizer? how to do that?, im also confused about the cool edit trick: compress/eq etc.

thanks, peace

Well, it's what dr dre does. Listen here to see what i mean. I also took the snare from the first loop, and compressed it to death and eq-ed it a bit. The way I see it, in hiphop you're not looking for realistic drums, you're looking for banging drums.

p.s. you better recognize the loops! Wink

i cant listen to any of your songs (at your site to)
its stuttering.
HOw can i do that option in cool edit though?
and another thing, how can you tell dre took a loop from a existing song and edited it? he might as well had a sample right?
after all they can afford all those great quality samples, synths, strings etc.
oh and BTW., im from holland to Razz

I don't know what option you're talking about, but the compressor can be found in 'effects-->amplitude-->'dynamics processing', and the eq in 'effects-->filters-->parametric equalizer (this is the best one).

dr dre beats the shit out of me isn't made by me, i just came across the original songs on cd's, and made an mp3 to show you what dr dre does. He just uses melodies from old songs (not always i think, but many more of his beats were done this way).

i hope i kind of made my point now (at least about the drum sampling, as the snare you hear in 'dr dre beats the shit out of me' is the same snare as the one in the first loop of that file, just treated a bit).

About not being able to listen the songs on my website, that has to do with your internet connection i think then. maybe you should save the songs first?

thanks walter, that was the option i was talking about, and sorry for the miss understanding of mine:wink: .
your probably right that he uses it from different songs, i can tell this by the musical chords, notes they use in the beats.
they could never have done this because only musicians with knowledge of musical notes and its attributes can make it.
His beats are most of the time good though but enough about that Razz ill try the cool edit thingy and while am at that you can add me to msn, that is if you have it...Laughing so we could cit chat about it further and i could show you some a my beats.

later

aligangster@hotmail.com ...... hehe Laughing

Whatīs a bit amaturistic? Sampling loops and drums is a very common thing in hiphop. Iīm not talking about ripping an entire beat, but creating your own with already existing samples.

Oh, and since madtracker has vsti-implementation, you can apply the compression in madtracker itself. This way you can tweak it till itīs right, so you donīt have to load the drumsample over and over again, when you want to apply more or less compression.

That's true, but i like to treat my drums in something like cool edit first, then load 'em into madtracker, and compress the drums as a group, to make them sit better in the mix.

I edit my samples as well in adobe audition (cool edit),
but sometimes a apply effects like compression and distortion in madtracker itself, so I can hear it in the mix.
When it sounds good, I export it and load it back into madtracker.
