Hello,
I have 2 quick questions.
1. Why is it that if you click on a link connected to an .MP3 file, a 'question box' (One of the "Download This" boxes that asks you if you want to 'save' the file or 'open' it) doesn't appear. It just starts downloading anyways (I have yet to find out if it automatically 'opens' or 'saves' the file, which brings us to question #2). It gives the 'question box' for .MT2 files. I'm just curious as to why this is.
2. Why is the download rate so slow? No affense to Yannick, but the kb's/S is terrible . (No, its not my computer if you were thinking of asking ). |

Isn't that just dependent of your MIME-settings inside your browser? For instance, quicktime browser plugin automatically plays back mp3's. No MIME-setting for .mp3 would result in you being asked whether to open or save the file. What happens to you sounds familiar to what Internet Explorer does at my home, namely saving/opening it to a location unknown to me. In my case, worse things happen at see, since I use Firefox for browsing.

What is slow? I'm on the same server as you are, and get the max 180 Kbps out of it. |

The download rate depends on your ISP and its peering to the datacenter where my server is. Here I download at 340 KB/sec (2720 kbps).

Yes it is my computer. It was that I was comparing the dl rate from madtracker.net to other websites and there was a huge difference... So I assumed it wasn't my comp. I know now that I should always concider the possibility when it comes to this computer.
1. The MIME-setting isn't the problem. For every other website with MP3's they asked me if I want to save it or open it. But I'm going to assume its my crappy computer, because that is usually the case.
2. I am downloading the files (at madtracker.net) at roughly 23kb/s. This is odd because my dl rate at other sites is 500kb/s. This, again, I am assuming is due to the fact that my computer is so crappy.
I just wanted to make sure it was my computer and not something else. And yes, I am getting a new computer |
