Stereo panning

How can I influence the stereo panning of a sample in MadTracker? Let`s say, I want a synth-pad to be played at an angle of 45° for the left channel and at an angle of 60° for the right channel to get a warm stereo feeling. One solution would be to import the left channel of a stereo sample and put it on track 1 and the right channel on track 2, controlling the panning via track effect '08 XXYY', maybe 08 0010 for L and 08 00D0 for R. But that`s really cumbersome for you have to import 2 mono-waves and edit track effects for each. Isn`t there an easier way?
(And what about the same question concerning VSTi?)

You can try my homegrown VST - it lets you control each channel of a sample separatly. Smile

I`m sure there are also other VSTe around which can do this. Wink

Thank you very much! It`s a tiny but nice tool!

Nevertheless, does someone know a different solution, one that is already implemented in MadTracker and a little bit more CPU-friendly?

you could use the panning on the samples themselves? Rather than typing fx commands...

You could take a look here, but I'm not sure if there's one that can control the individual channels.

Goose: MT does not support dual panning control via the pattern for dynamic panning changes over time. You can only give a general panning commands.

yeah, changing over time wasn't asked for, so setting the panning for each sample would work in this case. (Panning automation would be good though, eh?)

@goose: Yes, that is indeed a solution with less work to do. The only thing is that for individual panning I have to load the samples twice and waste two tracks for each (I am not sure if instances of one sample can be generated in MadTracker to use the same sample multiply). In sequencers like Logic Audio you can unchain the link of the two channels of a stereo-sample, it will automatically be shared onto two mono-channels in the mixing console which then can be individually panned. That`s great for quickly testing the best appearance and thus the atmospherical effect of an instrument.

@Inge: Thank you, I will check those VST`s!

stereopan

If anyone is interested, here is a very simple stereopan. Bare essentials so it shouldn`t hog to much CPU.

known bugs: Because of the way the sliders go in opposite direction in the panel you will experience that you will have to draw the automation opposite for one channel of what you might expect.
